Intelligence and brain function are inversely tied to Carbon Dioxide levels.

So the more crap we keep dumping into the air, the dumber we are going to get as a species.  If we don't solve it now, we may not have the brainpower to solve it in the future.

As pointed out in every Idiocracy thread, it's much worse.  When confronted with a difficult problem, President Camacho finds the most intelligent person in the world and puts them in charge of fixing it.  When it turns out he unfairly blamed Joe for the initial failure, he admitted he was wrong, announced to everyone that Joe was right and gave him an award.

Meanwhile, Trump would have put Kushner in charge of fixing it, Kushner would have come up with only stupid ideas that didn't work, grifted whatever he could off the solution and then blamed the Democrats when everything failed.

Which of these is better?

No, heredity doesn't work like that. However, people who value education will read to their kids and try to provide for them a nurturing environment so they can succeed. They don't just plop them down in front of the tube, ignore their well-being, not pay attention to what their kids are up to. It won't make the kids smarter but it will give them an appreciation for what they had and will make them look at where they are, where they're going and what they will provide their own offspring. Show your kid you care for them and others and they will care for others. Show your kid you don't give a damn about them or other people and they'll pass it along.

When I first read The Marching Morons, I thought, "What a crazy concept! Good thing it will never happen."

Among the insurrectionists, the majority were business-people or white-collar workers. Only 9% of those apprehended were unemployed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morlock
The Morlocks and the Eloi have something of a symbiotic relationship: the Eloi are clothed and fed by the Morlocks, and in return, the Morlocks eat the Eloi. The Time Traveler perceives this, and suggests that the Eloi-Morlock relationship developed from a class distinction present in his own time: the Morlocks are the working class who were relegated to working and living underground so that the rich upper class could live in luxury on the surface. With time, the balance of power changed - the hedonistic surface people no longer dominating the underground dwellers, but instead becoming their livestock.

Intelligence is definitely (at least in part) hereditary.

Smart people have a higher chance of living until breeding age, and probably help their offspring survive better after birth.  Now, at this point, smart people might actually have fewer children (which is the plot of Idiocracy), so that's not all good.

No, heredity doesn't work like that.

Thanks, so we agree.

Everything that came after your "However" is:

A. Not related to intelligence, but rather related to time and (to some extent) wealth. Some families can afford to have game nights and bedtime readings others can't. And some that can afford it don't (but hire a nanny to do so...). In short smart people can raise dumb morons.

B. Shows the importance of universal pre-k free child care, *and* free kindergarten and general public education after that. In short, morons can raise smart motivated individuals.

So, there.

Everything is "in part" hereditary.
And everything you write is why intelligence WAS selected for.

There were indeed selective advantages to possessing  increased cognitive capacities. This isn't what's correlated to what is typically referred to as "intelligence".

Like there *used* to be a benefit to increased memory (remembering tricks to catch preys or avoid predators, recalling early langages etc.). Memory is largely hereditary. So that's a component of cartesian thinking.

But there are a great very many conspiracy nuts who have engineering degrees. Soooo.... That's not sufficient.

Curiosity, the proper use of data, critical thinking skills, emotional quotient, and meta cognitive reflexes are all acquired skills (partly based on biological traits, obviously).

So the fact that smart people have fewer kids isn't the problem. Rather, the problem is the fact that learning isn't valued and public education is underfunded...

This is what happens when literature is removed from the curriculum.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt".

It used to be that this would be seen as wisdom by the dullards. Today they are proud and loud. I suspect the numbers are about the same, but now they want everyone to know about it.

We didn't just devolve to this. it's been a planned manipulation. But you know there's a lot of side effects when you only look at the short-term profits, and nobody ever stopped to think what they might be. Or more accurately--nobody cared. See how rich we are.
