On the other hand, the potential for death might make these games a lot more interesting.

What's with all these athletes getting COVID? Are they not vaccinated?

They should have anticipated this, when hosting the Winter Olympics.

I 'member the Brazil Olympics had some kind of petri dish magic going on as well. I know it's tradition and all, but maybe this shouldn't be going on this year.

I'm guessing the virus load in the air doesn't drastically affect drag.

But that's fine, lets write this one off like we did the super spreader protests of 2020.

Same geniuses who thought it would be a good idea to host the Olympics in Atlanta in the middle of July.

I remember roasting while watching some of the aquatic events, and that was in the morning.

The main reason to invent geometry is to see how much construction work you don't want to do before you get into it.

This is The Cursed Summer Olympics. Athletes not even competing because of COVID concerns, athletes sent home after testing positive for COVID, the Japanese people think it's idiotic, spectators banned after buying tickets, hotels screwed because of last minute banning of spectators, cardboard beds, and ... athletes from all over the world converting to spread thread COVID everywhere.

// I dunno why autocorrect is capitalizing Covid-19... wait; that last time it replaced COVID with Covid-19. See? THESE OLYMPICS ARE CURSED.

Going outside in August in Japan is like walking into a blast furnace. You will be chugging water most of the time, and will need a small towel around your neck at all times in order to mop up the sweat.

It is all true. Every word.

Or you can  be glass half full and just say, well, they are doing it. You can play golf in the rain or not play golf, so what's it gonna be?

The only people who want the show to go on are the ones in it and the ones doing it. The only real failure is giving up and just cancelling it.... maybe?

It is a shame. It all sucks. It is awful. Or maybe it was never going to be any better, so let's just do this thing. In all honesty, maybe this Olympics sums up the last 30 years or so of what Japan has been going through.

It would be stupid to have the summer Olympics in Japan even if there weren't a pandemic. I visited a client the other day and the little Toshiba air purifier thing in the corner said the humidity in the room was 90%. The air conditioner was running and it was still 90%. 90. farking. Percent.

Summer in Japan - where you can't even leave a piece of paper on a desk for an hour without it curling up.

There's a reason everything is wrapped in plastic.

Once it was so humid in my lab at school that when I went to crumple up a piece of paper, it made no noise. The paper was just soaked from sitting on the table. It's nuts.

Then there's that weird brain fog that comes from trying to breath in a room with ~100% humidity. Where opening a window significant improves things, despite it pouring rain outside.

Summer in Japan. Good times.
