Calling It 'Tyranny', GOP State Lawmakers Seek Ban On Hospitals Requiring COVID Vaccines For Staff

We can rename the 'hospitals,' 'COVIDitoriums,' and the only thing we do there is incubate new strains of the virus, to stick it to the  libs. This is a splendid idea.

To all nurses who did not get vaccinated against Covid-19: Quit your job. Now.
Because:
1. If you don't want to be vaccinated you seem not to have the basic understanding of medicine we need you to have to perform your job right (we need you to have an eye on those MDs and correct their little fark-ups for example). If you don't understand why you need the shot you don't belong into a hospital.
Or you understand but you decided to your personal opinions are more important than the well-being of your patients. In that case having you as a nurse would be like hiring a pool lifeguard who won't get into water "for political or religious reasons". Pointless and dangerous for the pople in your care.

2. If you really can't get the Covid-19 vaccine for (real) medical reasons I assume there is something wrong with your immune system. In that case working around sick people and those awful resistant hospital bugs is dangerous for you. Better find something else. It's in your own best interest.

Get the Covid-19 shot, or get the fark out.

I am willing to consider allowing nurses to be unvaccinated with some conditions.

1. Any missed time due to a Covid diagnosis is unpaid.  No group medical benefits may be used to pay medical bills.  Any PTO or disability insurance can be used to cover missed time.  You simply do not get paid.

2. You are solely responsible for any medical expenses and any financial liability incurred by any person who contracts Covid from an unvaccinated employee.

3. You may be charged by law enforcement of knowingly causing injury or death to anyone who contracts Covid from you.

4. You must wear a specially colored scrubs paid for by you to clearly identify yourself as a potential hazard to the rest of the hospital staff.

5. Your employer is not responsible for any harassment you my receive from other employees or patients of the hospital.

That sounds like an awful lot of potential drama. I would not want to have to deal with complications from rules like that on top of having the next Covid-19 wave bringing the hospital to its knees.

I have a cousin in Arkansas having a party this weekend.

I asked what's the vaccination rate and he said 1%.

So I called him and all his friends dumb and said he was bad at math.

He agreed.

I'm not going to his party.

Can we treat these nurses the same way?

One of my in laws is a nurse who refuses to get vaccinated. Everyone around her is vaccinated, parents, kids, everyone except her and her husband. And they are all Trumpers. As the pressure increases -- now she can't see her grandkids -- she has gotten worse.

She says her refusal is for "scientific and spiritual reasons." The scientific reason is based on predictably debunked horseshiat YouTube videos from a doctor who's had her license revoked. The spiritual reason, turns out, is that "god will save you if you refuse the vaccine."  She said this to her grandson. He is seven. When he repeated it to his mom, my stepdaughter, she promptly banned her from seeing the kids.

I hope her god will keep her company too, because she's rapidly running out of family.

Does the GOP think it's tyranny that nurses aren't allowed to smoke indoors in hospitals? That they're required to wash their hands? That surgeons are required to wear surgical masks and scrubs?

Anyone unwilling to take basic and necessary precautions to prevent undermining the health of other people has no business working in health. Or passing laws on health.

Damn, Republicans sure do love regulations on private enterprise.  In this case, it's a regulation on private hospitals' pandemic safety protocols.  Why do Republicans hate free enterprise, why do they hate letting businesses determine their own policies?

I'm being facetious, but not very.

being a nurse really means nothing, it's just a title. To be fair, any title given to anyone has no relation to their intelligence or knowledge. There's suppose to be an assumption but reality doesn't care. For example, i don't think anyone doubts there are CEO's that shouldn't be 'chief executive' of re-stocking toilet paper let alone a company with employees.

... unless you have an unwanted pregnancy, or smoke marijuana, or drink and get behind the wheel, or are Black and don't want to have lead injected into your bodies by cops, or a private business that wants to set its own terms of employment.

Anyway, it's tyranny.  Tyrannically tyrannical tyranny.

I mean... if you don't 'believe' (whatever that means) in medicinal science and caregiving, you really shouldn't be employed in medicine and being tasked with providing medical care.

Perhaps set up a witch doctor business where you can provide magical 'care' based on your gut feelings and what you wish were true rather than what is? That sounds more like your area.

Let me get this straight.

The GOP, the party of:
"Freehand of the market"
And
"Regulation kills businesses"
And
"Government shouldn't be telling businesses what to do."

Want to pass a law that tells private businesses what they can and cannot do?

Color me shocked.  No way I ever saw that coming from the part that wants to legislate who you can love, have sex with, books and idea that can be taught in schools, contraceptives, businesses abilities to have their own political voice (unless it benefits them), what God you can believe in.

No way I could've ever seen that.

It's also killing vaccinated older people. Theyre immune systems aren't as robust, so even vaccinated they are at risk. It's less than it was, but they'll keep suffering our poor choices as long as we keep making them.

Wouldn't the tyranny be the government telling hospitals, for purely political reasons, that they have to have lethally dangerous working conditions?
