We fought wars to use the phrase vacation instead of holiday?

Actually when I think about some of the lesser wars America fought that sounds about right.

Colour me surprised.

spongeboob: We fought wars to use the phrase vacation instead of holiday?

Considering Webster's hard-on for making American English as different as possible from British English without actually adopting Algonquin as the official language of the nation, Gaspaedo is probably actually right on this one.

Of course, the DoI, AoC, and Constitution are oddly absent references to Peppa Pig, so who knows.

It like that part at the end of Saving Private Ryan where Tom Hanks says his dying words to Matt Damon: "Earn this. Earn this so that our children don't pick up British accents from television shows."

What's this "we" sh*t, asshole?

2021-07-19 11:58:54 AM
He probably thinks (or just wishes) we fought against the British in WWI and II.

2021-07-19 11:59:19 AM
Yeah, Matt, THAT'S what that war was about.

Doesn't he live with an underaged Cuban boy? Wonder what accent that kid has, and if he biatches about our oast with the Cubans when his "kid" speaks.

A podcast where Ted Cruz riffs o what he imagines are Monty Python or Simpsons quotes and Matt Gaetz tries to identify which one it is.

After I read A Clockwork Orange as a fourteen-year-old, I spent about three days calling my friends "droogs" and even found ways to shoehorn the word into conversation even where it didn't fit at all. Then I outgrew it.

"At university". "On holiday". Geez, I'm in Alabama and I use the terms. Matt Gaetz is such a . . . which is worse . . a yob or a wanker?

But I do love aluminium as "al-U-min-ee-um" and controversy as "con-TROV-er-see"

And which wars? Was this the real meaning of conservatives' War on Christmas?

Yeah, it's a toss up between Clockwork Orange and Silmarrillion being the hardest to read... they did, though, prepare me well for The Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini (illustrated by Salvador Dali). It is a footnote marathon but it's also like a Don Quixote autobiography.. SO many times he'll say stuff like... "I painted with Michelangelo" and footnotes say it's true... then he's like "went to a place, everyone loved me" and footnotes say 'ehhhhhh...'

He's a total Donald Trump but with actual exquisite talent.

Anyway, yeah, reading Clockwork Orange is NOT an easy prospect.

I'm glad I have Matt around to finally explain why we fought in Vietnam and Iraq. Stick to underage girls Matt and let the professionals deal with history.

I'd have thought he'd find that more attractive

Oh. I thought this was going to be an explanation as to why he was not called a pedophile on the beach while hanging with his bestie "7 toes" Marg.

Nobody could've know that using TV as a baby-sitter would have consequences...

Still a better option than using Matt Gaetz as a baby-sitter though.

Kids imitate the accents they hear from the Harry Potter movies because it's fun. It's not making them change their accent permanently, that's ridiculous.

Nah nah nah nah nah

Not cool

I had a boss who was from Australia, for six months I thought they made cans out of something different down under until I figured out what he was saying.

I took 6 years of Russian and that definitely made the book better. It also comes handy whenever patriotic American says:"Without us you'd be speaking Russian"
