A white gentleman's coup d'état, why didn't they just say so? You know when "those people" coup, all they do is steal, and break stuff. Somebody buy that fellow a meal at Burger King.

They wanted to do the last thing, but they only succeeded in the first two.  Including stealing laptops to sell to America's enemies.

I'm glad that they can admit that their goal was sedition. And from their own mouths.

Now can we get to jailing these Taupeshirts, and every member of the RNC and in a Governor's chair, a Congressional seat, and AG office, and National Guard Quartermaster who held up a response by refusing to release ammunition?  This wasn't a bunch of boys running around with the high blood, they were there for The Dumbest Coup.

I don't think this lady speaks for everyone. Some people were there to overthrow the government, sure. Others were there to steal shiat. Still others just wanted to wipe faeces on the wall. The only common thread was that they were all Trump supporters and all idiots.

But you see, THEY don't see it as sedition.  They truly believe in their tiny blackened heart of hearts that the current admin is illegitimate and seditious, and they want to Take Back What Is Rightfully Ours and restore it to the God-Emperor.  They honestly believe that their idiocy is doing us all a favor.

With rights only for white, wealthy men, and everyone else was property.

No, they're akin to a buddy of mine from back in the day.

Said buddy was part of the Western Mass music scene, and back when Dinosaur, Jr was still rolling. Heck, he'd gone to school with Mascis. He was deep into the indie and punk scene out that way. As a side project, he and his buddies had an idea to see how much damage they could do to a venue before they got banned. And when Sugar Plum Dandy played, they brought the violence to the walls and incited the pit to just go nuts. Before a show with them being on a multiple act bill, the owner of the place took them aside and asked them if they could tone it down a bit because of the damage that got done the last time they'd played. My buddy turned to him and said simply: "We're SPD. We break sh*t." And then turned back to tuning his guitar.

The GOP recruited the political version of SPD to go to the Capitol. They knew exactly what they were getting. Just rage and frustration and looking for an outlet. They recruited them, they got them riled up, and the sad thing is, the crowd wasn't playing out a thought experiment to see how dumb venue owners were, but just showed up to break sh*t. Motherf*ckers recruited the angriest and dumbest folks possible to carry signs and tear sh*t up. And then acted surprised when after three days of prepping them--with tours of the Capitol with seated Congress members to see where they needed to go, and what sort of opposition they'd face--that their little knots of Sugar Plum Dandies went balls out nuts.

Russia isn't America's biggest enemy. They're a rival for world hegemony, but the actual enemies who want to destroy America are anyone with an R after their name on CSPAN.  Russia has never bombed the capitol and seeing how easy it's accomplished they probably want to save the Ruples and let Mitch et al do the job for them.

It used to be the big threat of COMMUNISM was the violent over throw of the government.  At some point all those Republican operatives, like Rove, Atwater, Stone, Horwitz, or Bannon, said the quiet part out loud and gave away the game.   They rabble believed no one would figure it out.

You'll still  see every political GOP ad in Texas claiming that communisim is what Nancy, Alexandra, and what ever candidate with a (D) after its name, are all dangerous violent Marxists.    But that theme is just nostalgic propaganda for those who missed Woodstock or didn't make it to Epiphany in DC 2021.

No, Russia isn't a rival. Russia has a simple plan to continue their kleptocracy, and that is make things just sh*ttier in the places that might force them to stop riffling through their neighbors' pockets. They used to be a rival, but now they have much less ambitious goals, and that is making fat bank, and keeping the proles from getting overly excited. Every action in this new Cold War isn't really so much to advance their goals, just to throw a monkey wrench into other nations' economies or social order. They just want them distracted and unable to stop them from robbing their neighbors blind. It's not about power, it's not about hegemony, it's about lining their own pockets. If China had been making noises about limiting their looting, they'd have turned their Troll Farms there.

It's a nation that HAD a place on the world stage, and they collapsed under the weight. Now, they are far less ambitious, but they've got people who are trained to do the sort of espionage and propaganda work that other world powers can envy. Only now, it's just pointed out to make every other nation they engage with just a little sh*ttier to keep them distracted, and NOT pointing law enforcement at their assets that they've shoveling outside Russia as fast as possible, because who can trust Russian banks, really? I mean, they're already run by criminals, so if you were a kleptocrat, would YOU trust your buddies to NOT steal from you?

These are just greedy and sh*tty people who have enough sense to point people to squabbling and throwing sh*t around to get folks riled so that they can get back to looting.

Because they didn't engage in treason. Treason is working for another nation. They are home grown insurrectionists, and thus, that is sedition. Treason would be if they said, "We did it for Mother Russia," and that isn't really their motivation. They were in it to win it for their own home grown boy, and screw the Constitution and law.

I'll bet some did.

There were certainly white supremacists in that crowd who see America slipping away from their control, and would rather it burn to the ground.

Same goes for Trump supporters in general. There's a certain not insignificant percentage that know he's an agent of chaos, and voted for him specifically because they want to hasten the downfall of the US.

That is a festering infection that needs to be dragged out into the daylight and dealt with, starting with the Capitol insurrectionists.

Can we shoot them for sedation then?

That they aren't all hanging alongside the Potomac until their bones are picked clean so their skulls can be placed in mortar around the Capitol building's public entrance is travesty enough.
That they continue to breathe and in some cases remain free is worse.
