I eat a big breakfast and a big dinner.  Often as not, PBJ or PB and honey is lunch.

I eat either Sunbutter or Almond Butter and Jelly sammiches all the time.  Wife is allergic to peanuts and I like non-meat proteins.

I love it, but forget about it. So I only have it rarely.

I'll mix things up with triple decker sandwiches and use marshmallow fluff and Nutella for the extra two surfaces.

If anything is cutting into pbj it's the low carb keto diets, but that'd be all sandwiches not just pbj.

Same here. Every once in a while I get a hankering and have to have one with a big glass of chocolate milk.

I just had a PB&J yesterday, so I'm getting a kick...

Franz Buttermilk bread, Adams peanut butter, Bonne Maman raspberry preserves. It's a drug of choice.

We have at least a PB&J a week.  The other day our management took my team out to Ruth's Chris in "appreciation" of our hard work.  I'm a vegetarian, so I sat there starving while everyone ate their seafood towers and steaks, then it was a Fluffernutter at home for me.  Dicks.  Every.  Where.

It is never -not- peanut butter and jelly time.  <dancing_banana.gif>  I can get large tubs of PB and various jams at decent prices if I shop with care.  It's no longer a staple of the earthling diet, so I make it a consistent indulgence and spend an extra hour exercising to make up for it.

\\\ and I won't be shamed for liking it.

I heard someone sing a nice slow acoustic cover of that at a coffeehouse.  A+ would listen again.

The 'Hard Rock' Cafe used to serve a PB&J with the crusts cut off. It was, IIRC, the most expensive menu item.
I think the PB&J has just evolved.Satay and jalapeno jelly for instance, both make excellent fried wonton dipping sauces.

i suspect someone is a special brand of ass. an adult that cannot speak to a waiter and have a nice salad and a meatless meal prepared upon request is just sad. my wife is vegan, she flys across 'murica regularly and had never had a problem with her nutritional needs. she simply speaks nicely with a member of waitstaff and they are happy to accomodate her.

Can't say the same for the peanut butter though that still needs to be heavily processed, Skippy or Jiff.

We plow through a jar a week in my house.   And it doesn't have to be heavily processed.  That depends on what brand you buy. I get that there are more peanut allergies and in some cases kids can't bring it to school but there are no facts in that about sales or the industry.  The article is BS from what I can tell.

Man, I haven't had a PB&J in many, many years - nothing against them; I just rarely eat bread. Might have to have one today for nostalgia's sake.

Is PB&J with bacon a thing, because it kind of sounds good on toasted bread.

Nothing happened to PB&J. It's still goddamn delicious. Give me some JIF Extra Crunchy with some Smucker's Blackberry Preserves, and I'm a happy gal. Or Strawberry Preserves. I prefer preserves because it has chunks of fruit in it, but if all you've got is creamy peanut butter and grape jelly, I'll eat it.

The best part is when some of it oozes out of the bread, and you scoop it up with a plain potato chip. That's some good eatin' right thar.

I honestly think if it's in decline it's due to allergies in schools as well. We didn't this year, but in previous years we have had notes not to bring any peanut based foods in from outside for our kid. Kinda hard to see growth in your sandwich portfolio if they are banned by the administration...

On another note - PBJ's are one of the best things to teach a kid to make at a young age to get them to be a little self sufficient. We got squeezable jelly so he only has to get out one knife, it's PB first, squeeze jelly, spread and done. The kiddo learned at 7 and when he complains about being hungry when we are doing leftover nights or what ever, we suggest he make one of those. This summer he and 2 of his other friends (all now 10) were rampaging around the neighborhood and somehow wound up at our house for lunch - He taught his friends the art of PBJ after we suggested it. Neither of them (one from india, one from china) had ever had one. 3 times last week they did it again, so apparently it was a hit.

As a rare treat, I make my wife the following:

Three pieces white bread, one lightly coated with Neufchatel and red pepper flakes, one lightly coated with honey and freshly grated black pepper, one lightly coated with peanut butter. Stack 'em. Cut off the crusts and cut into four tiny sandwiches.

Just amazing marriages there.

Chez Cora used to have on the menu a "Denis le Menace": A Penut butter, banana and bacon sandwich made with French toast instead of just bread.
Stick some jam in, pour on the maple syrup and consume with copious cups of coffee. Energy breakfast.

Hey thanks for calling me an asshole, rather than me just saying "Get farked", I guess I'd mention that I didn't just sit there and watch people eat.  I ordered the only non-meat meal available according to the waiter, which was "broccoli steak".  What broccoli steak turns out to be is a half a head of broccoli with some garlic on it.  It's basically a large-ish broccoli side-dish.  Their site mentioned other stuff, like a fettuccine alfredo and some "three stuffed tomatoes" kind of thing, but it's all subject to "location participation".  I had pretty much been banking on the fettuccine, so it didn't occur to me in the moment to get like a baked potato side which would have been plenty filling.

There's a salad you can get without meat on it, but it was more like a starter salad than an entree, and so I didn't want be like "yeah, I'll have four Steakhouse Salads and a coke".  Though saying that, I suppose I probably could have gotten some dry white toast.

I'm not going to haggle with the waiter at, let's be clear, A. Steak. House. about their lacking menu diversity.  I'll eat what's there and make a sandwich later, who cares?  These sorts of dinners aren't about getting meals anyway, it's just "look how much I'm willing to spend on a steak" kind of executive power trip stuff.

I kind of wish I knew the line-item price of that "broccoli steak" though.  It wouldn't surprise me if it was like $30 just because they can.

Fave PB&J memory... Summer day camp, biting into a Mom-made pb&j sammy on white bread, fresh outta the lunchbox after slow-cooking in the sun for 3-4 hours. Doesn't work as well with tuna & mayo.

My kids are ages 21 and 22. When they entered school, as preschoolers, peanut butter and jelly was by far the most popular sandwich among the students. Then peanut butter  was banned from a classroom because a child had peanut allergies. Later, peanut butter was banned  from a second classroom because because school enrollment included multiple children allergic to peanut butter. By the time my children were in the fifth grade, peanut butter had been banned from the entire school campus. By the time they were in the seventh grade, it had also been banned from all faith retreats and youth events.

Meanwhile, Americans seem to be eating more processed foods than ever. PB&J's haven't fallen out of favor because of health concerns or because Americans have adopted fancier foods. PB & J has been disallowed almost every where except private home.

So, the question is not why are Americans eating fewer PB&J's. The question is why has a food, that helped sustain a nation during the great depression, become potentially deadly to younger generations? What has changed? How do we fix it and make our food supply safe again?

You do realize that would've also been the coolest possible way to tell them "expand your friggin' vegetarian options," as well?
