I'm all for pizza threads. But just stop.

this is simple.
can we stop using "the best" in subjective conversations.

It is sad that people write stuff like this.

The only store/gas station anywhere near me makes surprisingly good pizza and you can call in for pickup. It's the closest pizza to me so it's the best.

The best pizza is the one I'm eating.

2021-07-17 6:26:50 PM
The way this year has gone, I'd fully expected subby's article to be a revival of Pizzagate, not an actual pizza thread.

And why are we following Stanley Tucci around as he checks out pie shops on anything other than a series entitled "Pizza With Muerte?"

Or did I misinterpret the CNN ad at the bottom, and Muerte's just gone "Bargain Basement Perillo?"

I've a novel idea.

I'll eat what I like and you can eat what you like.

Seriously though this vs. that is tiresome at best. Can't we all just get along?

Mmm, another lover of tautology pizza.

And in the next good article, the best BBQ comes from Brooklyn and not from Kansas City, Memphis, or Austin.

Free pizza is best -- especially if someone buys it for you, and you don't have to dig it out the dumpster. Most of the non-chain pizza places around me are the "eastern" Italian variety. They call all their customers "Boss".

QT has killer breakfast pizza. And personally, I like the really thin Pizza Slut or Pizza Inn stuff, although Uno's (before they went gourmet) 3-cheese and sun-dried tomato was really good.

The best pizza place is the local place that's a money laundering front for the regional mafia.

It's obvious you've never worked a youth hockey tournament.

There's only so much Little Caesar's you can take, even if it's free.

They mentioned the enthusiasm that Portland has for doing their best.

Didn't know good intentions made something great.

But yeah, let's leave this conversation alone for a while. People can like whatever pizza they want, and it's either New York pizza or some lesser pizza. There's nothing wrong here.

Good ingredients and some enthusiasm make something great.

I've found in my many travels in many countries, good beer, good bread, and good pizza happen in the same neighborhood.  Almost always.

Why?  To make any of these, you need good yeast.  If you've got a good brewery, you've got a source of good yeast and the bread and pizza follow.

NY isn't exactly known for their amazing breweries.

meanwhile, home just today after an entire week at Darkest Joisey Shore, the wife wanted pizza?! ok, so...

Lake Tahoe used to have this amazing pizza guy in the back of a gas station minimart who cooked pizzas in cast-irons pans. Damn, it was fine. No idea where the dude is now.

This bit from TFA tells me all I need to know:

What made Portland the standout? Myhrvold said it came down to innovation and passion to deliver the best.

Myhrvold gives credit to two artisan places -- Apizza Scholls and Ken's Artisan Pizza -- as jump-starting the quality pizza scene.

There's the problem. Great pizza doesn't need to be "innovative" or "artisan". The best pizzas stick to the classic ingredients. They don't hyper fire their ovens or use cauliflower extract in their crusts or us nortwestern wisconsin hand pulled goat milk mozzarella.

Most the time the best pizza is made by some guy named Carmine whose dad Vito and grandad Edoardo passed the recipe and restaurant down to him.

As long as it doesn't have pineapple on it and is called a Californian...

"Pizza is arguably the single most important dish in the world," Myhrvold said. "It's the most important imported cuisine."There are "so many arguments about what makes great pizza. ... If you look at a steak, a steak is pretty much a steak around the world. ... Not true with pizza. The different forms of pizza are all over the map, literally. And it causes people to have violent disagreements and so forth."
Simply put, I'm an asshole. I instinctively recognize assholes. This person is an asshole. There would be a stunningly brief "violent disagreement".There might be decent "pizza" afterwards, but ultimately, that is not my responsibility.*shrug*
