What about milk? People have been drinking animal milk for millennia. Now it's  Bad for you. I heard a guy on the radio, I think it was on the Garry Null show, who said that water has just about every known poison, venom, carcinogen, radiation and probably some Australian killer amoebas in it. So I guess I'll stop drinking water. Thank God for distilled alcohol.

I think 80% of "health wisdom" with regards to foods is whether they make you constipated or cause loud or smelly farts. (constipated farts are the worst)

Proper women don't fart which is why they demand gluten-free foods.

White Bread
7 / 9
Too much of this will give you hard, dry stools. It's made with low-fiber white flour. Go for whole-grain toast instead. It may help your next trip to the bathroom go more smoothly.

The gastroenterologist that looked down my gullet recently said that bread isn't a thing our stomachs are super capable at dealing with in general.

He did his residency at Harvard and speciality at Columbia, so he probably knows what he's talking about.

Because he said my situation was probably all in my head, and he confirmed it with the endoscopy.

Choosing wisely means checking the ingredient list when shopping for a loaf.

I don't have time for that shiat.

again, if you put enough mayonnaise on the bread, this is not a problem.

Our forebears had better teeth and longer lives before the advent of agriculture.  The population exploded because they were able to have way more babbies, but their overall health declined.  This is well documented.

Most likely that one farmer (or village) isolated from the rest of the world (pre-Columbus) could only grow a few crops (mainly the same ones originally grown in Iraq at the dawn of the neolithic era) so a varied diet was out of the question.  That and a local strong man and his hired thugs could take plenty of "taxes" whenever they felt like it.

Nothing specifically wrong with bread (or more specifically, whole grain bread, the way "bread" was cooked until the 20th century or so).

And no.  Once the population exploded, there was no real way to go back to a hunter/gatherer society without immediately overhunting all the animals and doing a similar disaster to edible plants.  Any "back to the Pleistocene" plans inherently assume wiping out 99.99% of the population (which also takes our tech almost to the paleolithic [except the odds of any survivors knowing how to nape flint approaches zero]).

You know, when I'm down in South Carolina, grocery store bread has the texture and sweetness of cake. This may be regional or most of the USA. I have no idea.

Bread made up here seems more salty/savoury and less dense.

The breads that humanity grew with were mostly sourdoughs with very course wheat (that destroyed teeth)

My preferred bread is an Italian or French style from a bakery, although a nice naan is always yummy

But a real baguette shares very little with wonder bread, and I really think it's a mistake to make determinations against the entire « bread » category

Good enough to get people to live to 35 so they can have lots of kids and the best choice for the bulk of your diet now that we have choices are not the same thing.  But you know that, right?

Right?!?

Are all of those options actually better for us?  Yes and no.  A lot of the food that came to Europe via the Columbian exchange were excellent. Adding potatoes and tomatoes did a lot for the diet of European peasants.  However, the damage that maize did is well documented.  And I won't even get into the way the modern diet is destroying health around the world.
