People will never STFU about that theme song. When asked if they liked the show itself, all they talk about is that song. Without the song it's one of the best opening credit sequences. And I think they mirror universe Enterprise opening is the best of all. And no, it doesn't have the farking song.

They originally cut the Enterprise opening to a U2 song.
But then found out it would it would be too expensive.

People tend to forget that a few episodes aside, the first couple seasons of TNG and DS9 weren't very watchable. Voyager was consistently mediocre.

The list makes sense to me.

Well, except for Enterprise, but I'm not sure where I'd move it to. Second to last?  Maybe.  Still behind TOS.

I just don't understand everyone's hatred of the Enterprise's opening credits.  I mean, so they weren't the best of the franchise. They always kinda brought tears to my eyes as I thought about the possibility humans may one day overcome our limitations and move on.

The opening credits were better than the show.  No matter how much I *wanted* to like it, it just didn't work for me.

Yup...The Cringe worthy TNG episode where they encounter a planet of black people. All dressed in bones and beads..and the first thing they do is kidnap a white woman.

It was pretty brilliant that the mirror universe came about because Cochrane (sp) blew away the Vulcan instead of shaking his hand and that's what would have probably happened if the Enterprise crew hadn't traveled back in time and prepared him for their arrival. So really, the mirror universe is the "real" one.

You're confusing anguish with scorn there, bub. That stupid song was just a symptom of the larger issues going on with the show. The folks in charge basically squared-off against the audience and they lost.

I think people would have been a lot more receptive to a Trek theme having lyrics if they didn't sound like something Michael Bolton rejected as too cheesy and cloying.  The fundamental problem isn't that the Enterprise theme has lyrics, it's that it has bad lyrics.

I ignore the Voyager opening because it is a cartoon. It looks so cheap to me, like they spruced up Starfox graphics. The ship is such a step backwards for effects. At least the space scenes were telegraphing that Neelix was going to be the main character. The only way to rescue that opening is if B'Elonna is 8 years old in 1986, and the entire Voyager series is her Rainbow Brite inspired cartoon daydreams. (This is the only possible canon that allows the plots to make any sense, although the Borg episodes reek of the Purple Pieman from Strwaberry Shortcake). Is Neelix a Sprite from Rainbow Brite? Is Neelix a Popple? Why does Chakotay have a GI Joe name, personality, and dialogue? Why is Harry's haircut out of a Grade 4 school picture? Why doesn't Kes have a unicorn pegasus and fairy wings? Why does none of the romance, or lack of romance, make any sense? There are so many plot holes that only an 80 cartoon miasma, from B'Elanna's point of view, can excuse. And it all ties together with the cartoon intro.

So close after 9/11, it was obvious to me that Enterprise was thinly veiled pro war propaganda. The Xindi were a group of different species that evolved on the same planet, lead by a council, or tribal leaders. They conducted a terrorist attack against Earth, specifically Florida. Earth had intelligence reports the Xindi were amassing weapons of mass destruction, so Enterprise was selected for a special mission to preemptively strike at the Xindi home planet to stop them before they could attack again.

It was so blatant, and the complete opposite of what Trek was. I stopped watching and never looked back. Apparently there was some sort of time war or something, but oh god you couldn't pay me to watch any of it now.

/and naturally the character from the American south was the most gung ho "kill em all" asshole on the ship

The problem isn't the lyrics, per se.

The problem is its limp-wristed sacharrine schmaltzy Christian rock gouda cheese shiate. Seriously, fark that noise.

The lyrics are just terrible sauce poured over an awful-flavored sundae with horrible nuts.

Which Gene would have gotten half of anyway because the greedy bastard infamously wrote lyrics for the TOS theme that were never intended to be use just so he could get a cut of the song's royalties by garnering himself a co-writing credit.

T'Pol's main purpose in the show was those decontamination scenes where they got naked and rubbed gel all over each other.

I did like the episode Carbon Creek, but most of the series was pretty bad. It was getting better in season 4 after they finished up with all the "time war" nonsense but by then it was too late.

Seasons 1 and 2 of TNG are pretty rough, but I actually found DS9's early seasons to be fairly decent for the most part.  Most of them wouldn't rank among among DS9's best episodes, but I thought they were entertaining enough hours of TV.  Mediocre, but not bad.

I think DS9 was trying to copy Babylon 5. With a long form story arc. And the first seasons were just setting the stage and doing character development shows.
It basically mimicked Babylon 5, even in it's 'endgame' story.

Agreed --not meant as shade on DS9 which I love but it is what it is --- I think they were basically over and done when the Dominion war wound down. The energy of the show was depleted and the shift to that asinine Pah Wraith bullshiat just felt tacked-on.
