Do we have a picture of the 'bunch', with something for scale?

I mean, if these are ping-pong sized, is a bunch only 5 grapes, or is it something the size of the costumed Fruit of the Loom guy?

Or is 'bunch' not being used in the 'one conjoined stem' sense of the word, and it's a case of grapes?

It's probably still an impressive amount to pay per pound, but I could see this being $500/lb, or $25k/lb, depending on what a 'bunch' is

This also showed up in a GIS for Ruby Roman, don't know if it's helpful.

What's the matter with that guy's middle finger? It's like he lost it in an accident and someone sewed on a toe to replace it.

Thanks.  I did a little searching, and found an episode of Trails to Tsukuji that covered grapes.  It looks like that picture might actually be on the smaller end of the range

And that a single wooden crate (which looks to be only slightly smaller than a cubic foot) is used for each cluster of grapes

High sugar and low acidity? Kind of boring, you need acidity to balance sugar and vice-versa to make things taste interesting.

I tried a sample of those grapes. They were sickly sweet. Just give me plain grapes.

That is downright scary

It's like that guy in the UK who grows freakishly large vegetables, like pumpkins that have to be moved by flatbed truck, and yet it's an actual variety that does that every time?

That's just not right

Meh... a lot of simple things in Japan are stupidly priced. Wrong computer, but I have pictures of  $25-30 watermelons... about the size of a soccer ball with wishful thinking at best . Around here it is $5 each for 2-3x the size. *shrug*

Then there are there are other things...

I don't think I fully understood the word 'cloying' until eating them. plain green grapes please.

IIRC Ruby Romans in Japan are among the best of things (along with the packaging) that can be given as part of a culture/tradition of gift exchanges.  Grapes so perfect might be something given between high level business persons.  The attention to detail as well as the expense is important.

Well, that's as best as I can recall from some other article.  I'm close to right, at least.
