Mine had a security guard for years. Only ever saw him keeping homeless from settling down inside the front door, though, I assume he wouldn't have stopped shoplifters.

Well, as someone who lives in San Francisco. They are correct:

- Last week less than a mile from where I live there were five shootings, two resulting in fatalities.

- Sideshows are all day every day now. And they usually end in gunfire or someone getting run down. The police only show up after everybody clears out to do paperwork.  I've observed this behavior firsthand.

- Yesterday a friend in the city witnessed a team smash-and-grab a row of cars as their getaway driver waited. This is common practice now, and videos pile in every day of organized teams of thieves in stolen cars busting windows out of vehicles.  The police won't even show up to take a report if you call this type of crime in.

- The Citizen app has been non-stop with notifications of shootings, muggings, and assaults.

- Businesses have closed / are closing San Francisco locations due to rampant broad-daylight theft.  There have been multiple articles on it, study it out. It's not just Walgreens, CVS, Target, Best Buy, and others in the city are all either cutting open hours or closing up.

I've witnessed all this myself, and will likely continue to witness it.  San Francisco is unsafe, and if you think otherwise you either have your head up your ass or do not live here.

You're right, I don't live in San Francisco. I live near St. Louis.

In the same time frame San Francisco had 21 murders, St. Louis has had 101. San Francisco still sounds like it's in a lot better shape than St. Louis.

SF spends a massive amount of money to help the homeless.  SF has basically abandoned treating shoplifting as a crime.  You don't get arrested for it and this has made the shoplifters even bolder.  Stores will start closing when the shrinkage gets high enough to make running the business infeasible.

As any good socially conscious entity I appreciate the need for all to always be in a state of fear. Hell, I'm afraid my neighbor isn't acting in a socially just manner at this instant and that is a reason to keep my level of fear at a level that feels socially correct. My neighbor probably isn't wearing a mask right now and is self-infecting.

This is totally unacceptable. Put a farking mask on you scourge!

Wait a sec... If a socially just entitity or entities are fully vaccinated, like any virtuous individual, individuals, or some other self-chosen identity without coercion, is properly vaccinated, why is their any need for fear?

I mean, it's a given that we all should be fearful of those that can't shut up and do what they are told but I've got to wonder, how am I supposed to feel the proper amount of fear if vaccinated.

It almost seems like this isn't any crime at all and I'm quite sure that this is not the correct way to feel. I'm pretty sure that I'm supposed to be afraid and accept that violent and forceful imprisonment is the only path of justice for the non-compliant with their threats of infection of the vaccinated.

Tldr: be afraid.

2021-07-16 10:01:33 PM

StoPPeRmobile: is properly vaccinated, why is their any need for fear?

Because, as anyone with an education past middle school knows, vaccination are not a guaranteed immunity.

I live in a relatively small Canadian town where the once historic downtown core has been overrun. Fires are common, people can no longer enjoy any greenspaces or parks for fear of their lives, and don't even think about keeping anything of even moderate value outside, locked up. We had to move our office because most of our staff refused to come in to work for fear of harassment.

I'm actually not a cold-hearted bastard, but god damn it, people who have done the right thing and been responsible all their lives deserve a little bit better.

It's farking simple and proven to increase sales and reduce loss from customers. Look internally for your sources of loss and stop worrying about boogeymen, I mean boogey (proper pronoun with consideration of the entity under scrutiny).

Which ones are closed is based on profitability.  A store that is being stripped barren by shoplifters on a daily basis is going to be at the top of the list.

Sure.   That will work when a dozen punks run into the store grabbing what they can and running out.   This kind of thing is becoming a regular occurrence.

Lol. You do realize that you get what was asked for? What are the police to do? Their primary tool of enforcement is violence. Have you forgotten the protests over violence? They heard you and are complying with the request.

Be careful of what you wish for. You just might get it. Too bad there wasn't anyone that warned about this like one and a half years ago.

Arresting shoplifters doesn't require violence.  Hell, the police won't even bother to show up to take a report and get descriptions of the criminals.

You can demand an end of police corruption and violence and still want laws enforced.  They are not mutually exclusive.
