How much pay did Ted Cruz return after fleeing to Cancun while citizens of his state froze to death?

Their per diem is $221? Is that every single day or just while traveling? That's more than most people make by actual wages... that'd be $27.63/hr for an 8 hour shift

NateAsbestos: Their per diem is $221?

That's only when the House or Senate is in session.

Texas only has a legislative session every 2 years.  Otherwise, their reps and senators are in their home district, drawing whatever salary is assigned for those elected offices.

Well, people can ask for anything they want, whenever they want.  Asking never means that they need to be listened to.

My girlfriend, Morgan Fairchild, asks for sex all the time, but sometimes I refuse because Beyonce has first dibs.

My rep lives like 5 houses down from me. Democrat, and was actually one of the ones that gave an interview on the national news about the situation.

Sadly, she looked nervous as hell, and it was pretty awkward. Nevertheless, she'll definitely continue to get my vote in the future.

I looked it up. Texas legislators get a total pay of $45k every two years. Their base salary in a year they're in session is only $7,200. Basically, the per diem IS their pay.

FTFA: KVUE News spoke with House Democrats Wednesday who say they have not received their per diems yet. They tell us per diems are appropriate for lawmakers doing legislative business, which the Democrats say they are doing by advocating for legislation in Washington, D.C. Per diems are given to lawmakers monthly. According to the House Accounting Office, lawmakers have not received their per diem payments for this month.

Watch the Speaker's bank account.

Actually, the Democrats being out of Texas, keeping the GOP from subverting democracy with evil voting bills, is them doing their job.

If anything, the republicans should be axed for trying to destroy democracy instead of passing bills that might do something about that whole unstable power grid or something.

What is Dade Phalen's opinion of the Republicans in the Oregon state assembly who did exactly this, rather then let a vote - that they didn't have the numbers to sink - go to the floor.

You're a massive coont, Dade. You know it, too.

No, I don't mean they actually get tips. I just meant force legislators to make the lowest possible wages so they raise them. low as minimum wage is, tipping jobs can still pay lower in some places even though they ain't supposed to.

2019: Republicans flee Oregon to avoid quorum on climate change bill, not only hailed as heroes by other republicans but after making threats against potential police sent after them "I hope they try to come onto my property, hur, hur, look at mah gunz" are considered amazing people by republicans.

2021: Democrats flee Texas to avoid quorum on voter suppression bill, only to be considered traitors who should be hunted down, locked up and probably anal raped by those same 2019 republicans.

Oh, no, no double standards here.

Assholes.

Since Texas is an R state. I will bet that it was the Rs that created this per diem rule. As a hidden sneaky way to increase their salary without letting the rubes know.

Every day while in session.

If you are paying for hotels and meals (and most legislatures presumably need to) it seems reasonable. It is in line with the Federal government employee per diems for Austin.

Welcome to an overlooked but still obscene flaw in the American political system: only wealthy people can afford to run for political office.

When you have only wealthy people in charge of the country and mechanisms of power, who exactly do people think are going to be the most looked-out-for and protected class of people in this country?
