Oh good. Now I don't have to worry about missing the last two or three hours of the game once I go to bed around 9....

Covid isn't done with the whole planet yet.
It's going to be quite a while until it is, if ever.

The vaccine doesn't guarantee you won't catch the 'rona, it just means you are less likely to die if you do catch it.

but also pro athletes have proven to be vaccine hesitant despite their presumed financial incentives not to be.

And some of those athletes have no problem taking steroids or other banned products but say no thanks to the vaccine for whatever reason.

From a New York Post article:

The Yankees are one of the teams who have reached MLB's 85-percent vaccination threshold, but not every player has been vaccinated. Cashman said most, but not all, of the six players who either tested positive or might have tested positive, were vaccinated.

Of course it was in the AL dugout/bullpen. Goddammitall.

I am going to be pretty annoyed if one of those guys gave the virus to Ohtani. He is vaccinated, but the Halos can't afford for him to miss any games.

I also recall reading at one point that lots of MLB players were opting for the single dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine to "get it over with quicker" and avoid having two post-vaccination "hangovers".

New York Post. Yeah yeah yeah.

Meanwhile, my son has recently become a huge baseball fan so I'd love for the Phillies to make a run but...

These assholes (not meeting the vax threshold) are starting to blame their early rash of injuries on the vaccinations.  I know baseball players aren't beacons of intelligence, but it is difficult reconciling the support of absolute morons.

They think that taking steroids will physically help them now with some vague potential for future harm. They feel that the vaccine might harm them now, with some vague potential for future benefit. That math doesn't work at all, but that is what many of them basically "think" or "feel" or whatever you want to call it.

Or they're lying.  It's not like MLB has a stellar history of being honest about what they are and aren't injecting in themselves.

Link? I came into this thread to hate on the Phillies, but I hadn't heard that.

Look, this is pretty simple.

They TOLD YOU that these vaccines do not keep you from getting the virus or spreading it.  It keeps you from getting sick from it.

Keeps you from dying.

So yeah, if you get vaccinated and still participate in a testing program, you are likely to eventually get a positive test.  This is what the manufacturers told you would happen.

As we move forward, spreading will continue to happen.  This is why you want the vaccination, because it will get to you eventually. At this point its not about saving grandma, grandma is already vaccinated.  Protect yourself.

This blurb briefly mentions it, but the original source was an article from The Athletic, which is paywalled.
