Horowitz's team found that in the summer of 2015, agents in Indianapolis waited five weeks to interview one victim who claimed she'd been abused by Nassar and never interviewed two other girls who reported abuse. After the first victim was interviewed, no formal report on the interview was prepared until February 2017, months after Nassar had been arrested on other state and federal charges, the watchdog report said.
The inspector general also reported that one FBI leader, now-retired Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge W. Jay Abbott, was mulling applying for a job with the U.S. Olympic Committee while the FBI was considering how to handle the claims about Nassar.
More than 200 women have come forward to claim sexual abuse by Nassar, most of them during his nearly two decades as team doctor for USA Gymnastics. Nassar also worked as a team physician and assistant professor at Michigan State University.
"In the fall of 2015 ... Abbott met with [then-USA Gymnastics President Stephen] Penny at a bar and discussed a potential job opportunity with the U.S. Olympic Committee," the 117-page report says. "Abbott engaged with Penny about both his interest in the U.S. Olympic Committee position and the Nassar investigation, while at the same time participating in discussions at the FBI related to the Nassar investigation."

Portman called on "the administration" to explain why those FBI officials who allegedly lied to investigators were not prosecuted. However, the inspector general report says most of the decisions not to prosecute came last September, under the Trump administration

Consider the sheer volume of sex offenders and child molesters that are republicans and were part of fatboy's administration is it even a suprise

It's seemingly everywhere. Law enforcement, organized religion, the news and entertainment industry , sports organizations (hell, the entire Big 10 seems like it's had similar pedo/sex abuse scandals), the Boy Scouts...I'm sure I'm missing some but holy hell it seems like all our institutions help to protect pedos and abusers.

He was convicted a few times and is now in prison for a minimum of 46 more years. That still doesn't mean the FBI didn't fark it up.

It's amazing how often the FBI manages to appoint people with a conflict of interest to conduct high-profile investigations.  It's almost as if the FBI doesn't want to incriminate the right type of people.

If we legalize weed, all the government agents and resources tasked to weed enforcement is not gonna go away.  They are gonna look for a new justification for existing.

My guess is that justification is gonna be all mistly the sex abuse they spent decades overlooking because they did not want to damage the reputations of politically powerful institutions.  The other monster  is gonna be civil rights abusers. The result will be glorious.

I suspect the right knows this, which is why they spend so much time pretending that legal weed is a moral threat, because they do not want all that federal power coming after them.

That isn't helpful.

Anyone who has sufficiently proved themselves to the right kind of people to be allowed into the senior ranks of society would be equally willing to ignore allegations made against the right kind of people. Sweeping allegations under the rug is much more about elite omertà than societal gender roles.

Blaming all men for that elite omertà isn't constructive.

It's not blaming all men for anything. It's simply remarking on the lack of women and girls in this story, considering that they're the point of the whole thing.

Also, cops cover for for poor abusers too!

I really liked Scouts, went tenting camping every month some where starting at 12, learned rock climbing and rappelling and summer camp was awesome with shooting and boating. I would have been an adult leader but had a daughter and being a leader without a kid in it is weird and it looks like there were a lot of bad leaders and just don't want the association.

Smelly Pirate Hooker: When rich and/or connected people don't want something investigated, very often it doesn't get investigated.

I mean, sure. But how "rich and/or connected" is a team doctor for the USOC? In this case, the guys advantage seemed to be that the investigator in charge wanted a job with the USOC.  I suppose getting this investigator on this job could have been where the strings were pulled, but that seems pretty far fetched.

I'm willing to accept this was just a tragic coincidence that a conflicted investigator was assigned here. Or he was assigned specifically because he had a lot of background and knowledge about the USOC.

I'm not really sure that a sports team doctor at any level is really the kind of guy who has pull at the FBI.

Give the FBI a break.  In 2015 and 2016 they had their hands full sabotaging the 2016 election.  You expected director Comey to uphold the law or something?
