If Bourdain was alive he'd rightly berate the ever-loving shiat out of this unethical hack. What a disgusting display of arrogance.

This is farking gross. And I was looking forward to this, but everything in this article has me so disgusted I'm not going to see this.

Sigh.

The Director states:

""But there were three quotes there I wanted his voice for that there were no recordings of," Neville explained.

So, it's not an AI making up Bourdain quotes. He used an AI to mimic Bourdain's inflection to vocalize three quotes of Bourdain's that were either lost to time or never recorded.

While this is iffy, it's Bourdain's words, just spoken by voice software.

The example given was an email Bourdain wrote - so they're his words, but they were never said aloud. It's borderline... but it's not "inventing quotes."

Should've done it like Ken Burns film, get James Earl Jones or Tommy Lee Jones to voice the lines

The spicy crab I had last night blew a hole in my colon the size of a hubcap... yet my spirits remain high.

The posthumous documentary about Roger Ebert was narrated by a rock-solid impersonator of Roger Ebert. I was watching it for a while before I realized, "Hey... wait a second......"

They are using his quotes. They're just using AI to create the voice instead of having an actor read it.

AI to create Tony's voice reading an email Tony wrote? Unnecessary but ok.

"If you watch the film, other than that line you mentioned, you probably don't know what the other lines are that were spoken by the A.I., and you're not going to know," Neville said. "We can have a documentary-ethics panel about it later."

He's dead.  Literally every audio 'bite' you hear from him is fake at this point.  A transmission of a copy of a master copy of a ghost.  Calm down.

the cnn "thing" that basically only talked about his time on cnn was garbage. GARBAGE!!!!!.
The man deserved better, IMO. And then there is this ? Farks sake asshole- show some respect
to a man that took us places we never thought of going to, thinking about eating odd things from street vendors , and giving a pretty vivid picture of life in different places , many times while intoxicated .

I miss Tony. His show was one of the last shows I would always find a way to watch. And I am angry at myself for not going to a booksigning and just telling him "Thanks" .

If you think that's bad, let me tell about how a bunch of assholes in England in 1611 cobbled together the crap that became the King James Version of the Bible ...

So I'm not gonna worry all that much about "made up" quotes from Anthony Bourdain.

Pretty sure Bourdain wouldn't worry all that much about it, either.

Why?

How is this so repugnant when many other documentaries use actors or impersonators to read quotes of dead people?

That wouldn't really fit if the rest of his quotes are in his voice.
