I remember the backlash was almost entirely against Sony. Pretty sure they looked at huge losses for future movies and blinked.

I do recall Marvel getting a fair amount of backlash for being entirely too money grubbing about it.  But even the people who called bad form against Marvel were pretty much entirely against the idea of Spidey leaving the MCU. And why shouldn't they be?  Sony hasn't really proven themselves to be great stewards of the character.

I do recall a rumor that the whole thing had started because some exec on the Disney side didn't really understand how the whole deal worked, and thought that it expiring meant that Marvel would get the exclusive rights and not Sony.  They went into the negotiation thinking that they held all the cards, and got a pretty rude awakening.

FTFA: Played by Tom Holland, the character has now appeared in five films - two of which are his standalone adventures, while another two are Avengers blockbusters.

Um, someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 2 + 2 still equal to 4?

The 5th was Captain America Civil War.  I don't know why they specifically mention the other four movies though.

Yeah I finally kept reading on into the article and they brought it up later on. Just an odd way to phrase that I guess.

That would have really sucked. Still, Spidey is one of those heroes I'd really just rather have a TV/streaming series for so we could get the whole supporting cast, recurring villains, etc. Batman and Supes are kind of the same where it's the larger supporting cast that brings out the best parts of the character. Save the 2-3 hour summer blockbusters for the characters casual fans can't almost immediately rattle off half a dozen supporting characters.

We should have the government declare certain characters "cultural heritage characters".  And while " owned" by some entity or another, give the government the ability to take the character away if they don't do right by the character.  Nobody cares about shiats McGee, so go ahead and ruin it.  But characters in the national heritage must have government protection.

It was just a weirdly worded article. This line gave me a head scratch trying to parse it too:

"Persistent criticisms cite how Peter has been reduced to a mentor in the cinematic universe when he's a capable hero that can stand on his own two feet in the comics."

Hopefully Joe "the Ice Cream Man" Biden, will channel his previous self and wrap a chain around Micky's head, like the theatened to do to CornPop.  We need leaders not beholden to the mega corps.  Time for the mega corps to do what is right for the country, and not just the share holders.

I could really take or leave Holland's "JIMMINY WILLICKERS, MR STARK!" Spidey, I don't think he actually added anything to the films.

LMFTFY  article writer whose job it is to get these words correct.

And people don't like the Spiderman movies? Further proof my lack of faith in humanity is justified.
