This is just how France and the EU run.. they search and levy fines. They don't always make sense, but they do it. It's a fine line between generating potential tax revenue, and Google saying 'blow me you little shart of a country', and just taking their services offline there.

Reminds me of an old Mad Magazine article, except it was about a power company (IIRC, might have been AT&T).  "A second's profits shot to H#$%."

Australia has less than half the population of France and Google didn't tell Australia to get rekt. Something tells me they aren't leaving.

Fines are at once both pointless and cruel, unless they are attached to income/net worth.
