As someone who's lived in Chicago and New Orleans... I just assume all governors and mayors end up in prison eventually.

"Did I say election? I meant erection -- my bad."

Of course he's dead. He had no lungs.

The first election I voted in in Louisiana almost 30 years ago was to elect this crook governor so the klansman wouldn't win.

That had me wondering what I had got myself into.

Too bad he wasn't.

Klansman v. Crook seems to say a lot about LA politics.  Except now the venn diagram overlaps a lot more.

Huey Long endorses this idea.

"and the only governor to serve time in prison on federal corruption charges."

But probably not the last.

Might want to check under the floorboard for dead girls.

Lived in New Orleans 1989-91. When the choice for Governor was a crook or the former Grand Wizard of the KKK, go for the crook.

He has a seven year old son with his fifty plus years younger wife who met him while he was in prison after reading his book. So is she just super crazy, or did this guy have mad game, or were those gambling kickbacks he got convicted for stored offshore and he was super rich?

I always vote for the dude caught in bed with a live girl or dead boy.

I was in Arkansas but our local TV was Shreveport. I remember it well. I really hoped 2016 would go the same way-even President Bush said don't vote for the Republican.

Among Edwards' last words were, "I have lived a good life, had better breaks than most, had some bad breaks, too, but that's all part of it. I tried to help as many people as I could and I hope I did that, and I hope, if I did, that they will help others, too. I love Louisiana and I always will."

Those were not his last words.  Besides the inane mumbles and grunting people do at the end, he had some final conversation with his wife or relatives that no one heard.

Gastric burbles and flatulations.

I wonder how Trump would have fared if he had Edwards' style instead of "grumpy old man"

He did have mad game.  IIRC part of his game on how he got much younger women was that you simply keep asking.  Not the same one, but a bunch of different ones.  Many will say 'ew..', a few will say yes.  Candy was one of those.

WAYY back in the cay, used to occasionally see see Edwin and Candy midnight shopping at the Siegen Lane and I-10 Walmart.

I suppose if you throw a handful of rocks at a target, you're bound to hit it.

Alternatively, was she looking for a meal ticket for a pregnancy and gambled on him not asking for a DNA test?

Someone described a college-aged friend of his who was always inconveniently...off in some private place when it was time to leave a party or other event.  He would ask every girl, get slapped a lot, and eventually get laid.

This was, of course, before AIDS.

While he might have been a crook he did a lot for the poor and African Americans for the state.  He made the oil companies pay their share and rolled that cash into schools and social programs.

Agree.  I think he really wanted to help people, just wanted to get his beak and wick wet a bit more.

R.I.P., former Governor Edwin "Eddie" Rome. Too bad Ben Barron outlived you.
