"I don't need you but I'll give you 10%". Cameron might be kind of an asshole.

And Avatar sucked.

10% of the front end or back end?  Studio green eye shade folk can make that 10% on the back end worth about 30 bucks.

Like we need another movie about saving Matt Damon from space.

Back when the film was still relatively new, Fark used to have a dedicated band of Avatar defenders.

I still pray for them.

The Bourne movies are pretty good, so is Saving Private Ryan, oh and Good Will Hunting of course and there's Interstellar. All in all he's got a solid career going on.

He's made a lot of good movies but the only thing that pisses me off about the Martian is that they submitted that movie as a comedy for some award show. It may have actually WON!

It was like they said "we're not going to win against whatever else was up in the drama category" so they submitted it as a musical or comedy because Matt Damon cracks a joke or two.

Men, Avatar was huge when released, broke box office records, and generally got great reviews. I think overall it's grossed somewhere in the range of 2.5 to 3 billion U.S.. The thing is that people got over it and after a couple of years opinions really started to slide. I think people were originally taken in by the special effects and visuals but on further reflection found it overbearing. I can't think of another blockbuster that has gone from loved to hated in quite the same way.

That's probably true. I never saw DWW so it's never really been on my radar, but I remember it as being very hyped and well received when released, and public sentiment seems to have turned on it.

I still don't hate it and will see any sequels Cameron manages to eke out, but it's not one I think about much except when it's being bashed online.

By far the most entertaining thing about Avatar is watching Sam Worthingtons accent constantly slide back and forth from passable American in to hard Australian over the course of 3 hours.

/seriously it's egregious. How did no one notice.

It probably went unnoticed because you managed to do something even the director couldn't do: Pay attention to Worthington's incredibly boring performance.

He's like the cinematic equivalent of a morning meeting. No matter how the words are spoken, every fiber of your being is resolutely opposed to listening, because it's all just so mindnumbingly dull.

The only things that stayed with me from Avatar are:
*Stephen Lang being seriously hammy
*Michelle Rodriguez being really good, she was perfectly cast.

According to Hollywood math, Forrest Gump lost money. I hated the film personally but it made a shiatton. That's nowadays actors take a percent of the gross, not the net.

He didn't die in the end, so by the conventions of Greek theater, it was technically a comedy.

It's really a movie that it is hard to have any strong emotions about. It wasn't really that memorable years later, but at the same time it wasn't as terrible as something like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen or Batman V Superman. It was overlong, overly familiar white savior story, but on the flip side the visuals were like a Roger Dean album cover come to life, which was pretty cool to see on the big screen.

At the end of the day, it is just kind of mediocre. At least Titanic had a young Kate Winslet topless, plus during late 1997 / early 1998 it was a pretty reliable date movie for me because it was in the theaters so long.

I agree, the movie itself is a mostly forgettable nothing wrapped in pretty visuals. I'd put it about on par with Jupiter Ascending, except JA is stuffed full of unintentional hilarity.

Maybe that's what Avatar was missing. Flying space werewolves and royalty-loving bees. Or at least SpongeBob to catch all those floating luminescent jellyfish.

Dude has like 20 credits as a producer and half a dozen pre-date avatar. He knows where the money goes. He can just text Ben Affleck if he forgets.

I farking love that movie. Never has a character made consistently bad decisions in such a believable way. Every time he farks up and then explains himself you WANT to believe he's telling the truth, even though he likely isn't.
