Civics should be part of every school's required curriculum across the country. Understanding the rights and duties of citizenship is integral to citizens making well informed decisions, and understanding why their votes matter.

No one on the GOP side wants citizens who understand that there are duties that go with citizenship, only FREEEEEEEDOM and anything else is just hokum and humbuggery designed by the Far Left to make you do stuff that just isn't cool. Like jury duty, or taxes, or following laws, or signing up with Selective Service to fight wars that people SHOULD ALREADY BE VOLUNTEERING FOR, EXCEPT FOR MY LARRY WHO IS TOTALLY GOING TO BE PRE-MED IN A FEW YEARS SO YOU CAN'T TAKE HIM! HE'S ONLY A BOY!

Rights rock, duties suck. Duty means that citizens might understand that voting is a voluntary duty, as well as looking out for their own communities as opposed to just letting agencies trickle aid and attention to issues. We can't have an informed and alert electorate, that understands that their rights come with duties to their neighbors and nation.

Republicans hate the YMCA now? Wow. Even that is a new one for me.

the proposal was essentially creating "the Eagle Scouts program for civics" that could give students real life experiences to intern and "build some advocacy for something that you believe in and work the process to get your ideas heard."

Although I doubt he had a problem with the intent behind the 'Blowjobs for Politicians' program, he has to stay concerned about the future of White Nationalism.

JudgeSmails: an uneducated populace is the voting base the gop needs to survive.

If people get too smart, they'll stop being dumb enough to vote for the GOP.

"The Governor vetoed SB 146 because the legislation did not contain protections against politicized "action civics" - and therefore, there was a risk it could be used to bring political indoctrination and activism into public school classrooms."

Is that fear I smell? <sniff> Yep. It sure is.

It is the fear of open minds thinking for themselves. The fear of someone having original thoughts. The fear of a loss of control of his sheep.

Probably a lot more fears buried in his empty cranium. Lots of room for fear as he has no brain and fear is what drives them all. Fear and anger is all they have.

Republicans just want their base as dumb as possible.  If they don't actually understand how government works, the Republicans don't actually have to do anything but be victims, complain about dems, and pass legislation that helps them and their friends.

It's not rocket surgery.

Just look at how many of these dumbasses that think Trump actually has a 1A case against social media companies.... and their leaders as individuals.

DeSantis hates any education, because people educated past third grade know what a craven criminal and coward he is.

Obviously you're not wrong but I'm not seeing this as being about the next generation of voters, I'm seeing it as being about next month. Some awful shiat will go down in Florida, there will be protests, conservative shock jocks will lecture their listners about why kids should learn civics in schools, maybe involving the YMCA.

It's the circle (jerk) of conservative "commentary".

Apparently these Civvics sheeple need to Study It Out.

It's up to the local group running it, but a lot of spots do means testing on monthly fees and that makes karens reach 9000.

If every Florida legislator voted for the bill, it should be easy to override the veto, right?

(DeSantis is presumably aware of that and is posturing for social conservatives he'll need to get the nomination in 2024.)
