Exceptional warmth has seeped well into the Arctic Circle in the northernmost parts of Norway and Finland this week -- areas that are typically locked in ice and snow for a large portion of the year.

Uhh, while this is true, that portion of the year is not now, so I'm not sure why it's relevant.

This is one of those times where the criticism says almost nothing about the subject at hand and only reveals the ignorance of the person putting it forward. In this case, that they can't tell the difference between religion and science.

I feel it's important to point out I funnied your post. Not out of the typical "politics doesn't have a down vote" but rather... it's all bad comedy.

They didn't care then, and while they might care now, they only do so to spite anything and everything. They welcome the confrontation, and thrive on the attention.

I laugh that it's long past too late to do anything but laugh.

Let me know when China's per-capita carbon emissions are more than half the US's. (To be fair, that'll probably be within the decade.)

Who is "we"?

67% of people in the US think the government is doing too little about climate change. Al Gore won the popular vote. Who is "we"? Who gets to be "we" in this scenario and make the decisions that mean we don't have electric trains or solar all over the south or electric cars? Do the rest of us have a huge amount of choice here?

We could all join extinction rebellion and get arrested, or whatever. True enough. We could do more about the "we" that refuses to do anything. But I think most people are not anywhere near the levers of power, rather we're the ones those levers operate on.

And few people want to devote their lives and possibly their deaths to trying to move the needle here, because they know the overwhelming force they're going to be met with. Remember the protests over the Dakota Access pipeline?

Why China? Why not Israel or Poland, which have similar per capita emissions to China?

And more importantly why the fark not all the other countries with (in some cases significantly) higher per capita emissions? Like the US, Canada or Australia?

Seems the less white people a country has the madder you are with it. But go ahead and explain your logic.

You're right that emissions scale almost perfectly with income, but otherwise your post is a big nope. The massive corporations that are responsible for global warming according to the newest "let's do nothing" propagandists are energy companies (and many of them state-run). Their carbon emissions are our carbon emissions. America, for example, is responsible for roughly 6 billion tons CO2e per year. 1.5 to 1.8B tons of that is just people driving around in their cars. Another 1.5B or more is retail electricity, again meaning everyday people.

We need a carbon tax immediately.

THIS^^^^^^

The issue is consumers  -- everyday people. Us!!  It's the cars we drive, the heating and cooling of our homes and the food production system that fills our bellies.

WE create this problem as much as do the amorphous "corporations" or "energy companies" in our everyday existence.

Where do you get 12.5?

https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/inventory-us-greenhouse-gas-emissions-and-sinks

EPA - 5.8 tons...which is like a bit over 15% of 35

In 2019, U.S. greenhouse gas emissions totaled 6,558 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, or 5,769 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents after accounting for sequestration from the land sector.

Europe especially and America have flattened their emissions. It is likely that they'll go down significantly in the coming years.

The rest of the world? It's blowing up. Hundreds of coal plants. How many coal plants are being built in Europe or America?

Just admit it. It's the rest of the world that's going to cook the planet.
