Oh no. They won't be able to see that guy who did that one song  a long time ago. Too bad - he seems like he probably knows a lot about virology and public health in general.

I was a huge fan of The Smiths/Morrissey and Stone Roses in the 80s and early 90s. Oasis to a lesser extent. It's a damn shame that these guys have gone 'round the bend. It makes listening to their music a less simple pleasure.

I'd probably agree if I wanted to listen to some deep cuts from 20-25 years ago. Thus, I just remember the one. Not a verve hater by any means. But I do have a bee in my bonnet about famous people using their soapbox to undermine responsible public heath policy.

I haven't listened to it in a while so I checked the tracklist, Urban Hymns has a remarkable number of good songs on it.

I don't remember ever listening to any of the other albums.

Look I always thought bittersweet symphony was teenage poetry gone to crapsville and his solo stuff even worse.

But! My opinion means nothing. This anecdote says it all.

At an Australian festival he was headlining and so were the Pixies and surely enough he was on at the same time and surely enough most people went to see the pixies. Shortly through his set he threw his guitar to the ground and yelled "fark the pixies" and walked off stage, despite being paid handsomely to to an entire set

So his crybaby antics have form

If he's an anti-masker/conspiracy theorist, his politics suck. But he's a great songwriter.

Something about this doesn't make sense though, he doesn't seem the type, and at 49 years of age he seems a little young to be a gammon.

I am also disappointed when acts I like have opinions that seem to belie their intelligence but here we are. Dude said he would not play shows with restrictions. For this event, they require vaccination or a negative test.I am forced to conclude that if they did not require vaccination or negative test then he would be fine with tens of thousands of people mixing in close quarters. So I have now formed a low opinion of his overall intelligence which may not be deserved.

Coming into this with no background information at all I could have read his comments as an objection to the lack of mask requirement for the sake of doing large event covid spread research. I could absolutely be wrong but I think people are so used to these guys being douches that they automatically suspect the worst.

Hmm, according to Wikipedia, he actually does have a writing credit for it. And Ian Brown, another covidiot, did vocals for a remix of one of the other tracks on Psyence Fiction.

Went to an UNKLE gig when they were in town one time. Supposed to be Rich File and James Lavelle, but only Rich File showed up. Word is that James Lavelle is shiat live, anyway, just puts on a mix CD and doesn't actually do any live DJing, so I don't think I missed out anyway.

Ian Brown did, anyway:

During the series of lockdowns, which the United Kingdom enacted as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brown shared his opinion against the lockdowns, the use of masks and the COVID-19 vaccine.[15] He refused to play any venue that required a Vaccine passport for entry, calling it the "new nazi normal".[16]

He states he is an anarchist in his Twitter bio.[17]

I mean, I can get musicians not necessarily being the sharpest pencils in the drawer, but I was very disappointed when I found out yesterday that the historian Neil Oliver is not only a derper but also hosting a show on GB News, which is trying to introduce Fox News-ish style "news" to the UK.

I've enjoyed several documentaries he's made over the years, and someone as educated as he should know better.

From Wikipedia: Commenting on the British government's, response to the coronovirus pandemic, on 11 June 2021 Oliver said that "Lockdown is the biggest single mistake in world history".[19]

Incredible band - their Achille's Heel was Ian Brown's live singing voice though, he couldn't hold a note. But I saw them about 7 years ago in Dublin and it sounded like he had invested in some voice training - it was such a great gig, beautiful summer's evening, very chilled out crowd, easy access to the bars, and an amazing sunset.

I just listened to an interview with the drummer of one of the earlier incarnations of the Verve. He calls Ashcroft a prick and a drama queen, who doesn't even speak to the other band members anymore.
