If he does it right, he will only dim the lights right when you get up to go get popcorn when it is unclear if the movie is starting on time

I am going to guess to show movies.

The new theaters can't show older 35..and 70mm movies in their original proportions.
IT's good he's protecting a bit of history.
I think Cinerama theaters are basically history except for one or two in California.

As long as the reels turn and people still buy a bag of popcorn on their way to plopping their asses into a theater seat its all good. Seems like taking a weekend trip to catch a classic double feature at a Tarrantino theater could be fun, so long as they don't bark too loudly about the pocket full of miniature booze bottles I bring with me. Who knows, a fellow might meet the Floridian hooker of his dreams doing that.

I dunno, maybe because  (FTFA) "...I have a living room, I want to go to the theater."

He doesn't intend to make the same mistake Pee Wee Herman made and get busted for fapping to the porn he's gonna watch in an empty theatre.

I think this is a neat thing for Tarantino to do and it's absolutely wasted on the shiatheads who live in LA. There are TWO old single-screen movie theaters within walking distance of my apartment; the one closer to me sits mostly vacant with a dialysis clinic working on either side of it and the one that's a mile away is a soon-to-be-closed CVS. Both of these spaces could be refurbished and turned back into operating theaters that show both new and old movies or at the very least small venues for live music shows and other community events but apparently Quentin Tarantino is the only person in this country with money with gives a fark.

That tweeter might want to read TFA:  "And again: only film. It won't be a revival house. We'll show new movies that come out where they give us a film print. It's not going to be like the New Beverly [Cinema]. The New Beverly has its own vibe."

Does the theater come with anti-Asian racism too?

I went to middle school a short walk from there. Watched Independence Day there.

Dude said Charles Manson and Bruce Lee were the same kind of person. Dunno what you'd call that, other than the obvious.

Well, they were both lackluster songwriters.

How many new movies are available on 35mm? I thought most if not all of the major studios went exclusively to DCP more than 5 years ago, and that Technicolor's print houses have been shuttered.

Probably every city has one theater capable of showing a 70mm print - every year there's a 70mm revival of a repertoire film that makes the rounds across the nation. And it feels like someone is always screening a 70mm version of Lawrence of Arabia.

Just admit: if this was real, you'd watch it.  I would.  Many times.
