Just like the 10 commandments , you can bring it down to one.

1-Greed ,for lack of a better word , is good.

I'm surprised SCOTUS Justices aren't regularly assassinated.

Six conservative Justices agree that, yes, corporations are people, but since corporations aren't allowed to vote, the Court will have to make sure that most of the actual people who don't trust corporations won't get to vote either.

Don't worry, the next decision endorsed by both parties will be that money is votes.

Is one of them "there needs to be term limits?" Because it should be.

There was a proposal going around after Ginsburg died to limit terms to 18 years and cycle them on a 3-3-3 basis .So every six years 3 new justices get nominated. I liked that idea.

I am surprised Breyer hasn't resigned yet, although he does have another year before the midterms.

5 takeaways?

Voting rights.
Women's rights.
Civil rights.
Free speech rights.
Union organizing rights.

They've all been taken away.

The biggest takeaway is that we should be increasing the size of the court from 9 justices to 13 and confirming 4 new justices that are strongly in favor of voting rights and are pro-democracy.

I think a Payne Stewart-type situation is more, er, pertinent. Engine failures usually just lead to emergency landings. I say that in my most neutral tone of voice.

The biggest take away from this court thus far is saying "I declare Jesus" is enough to ignore civil law without consequence.

How long before they force out the non-conservative judges so they can just have themselves a 100% stacked court to dismantle the country with?

I'm betting by 2050.

I agree, but make it more than 13. The number doesn't matter. Add 20.  Add 50. Whatever it takes. Literally. Conservatives should have no voice. Anywhere, for any reason.

How sad is it that the most desirable positions a prospective SCJ could have are "citizens should be able to vote" and "democracy is desirable?"

Those should be part of the base game, not DLC extras.

Here's a counterpoint: if we are at the point where considering assassinating justices (or anyone else) - in order that people may freely and fairly participate in the democratic process - is necessary in the first place, then America has clearly ended already.

By actual definition they aren't conservative anyway.  They're more corporate theocratic libertarian.... Corporations and religious bigots are free to do whatever they want.

A conservative view would have far more respect for precedent and tradition.  They're positively progressive when it comes to corporate rights..

I don't buy that logic. The Supreme Court had a liberal majority for decades. Some decisions overrode free and fair democratic processes yet no one has ever assassinated a sitting justice. Believing that a justice should be killed - for any reason - just tells me you aren't interested in the rule of law in the first place, you're only interested in getting your own way.

Basically they're not as bad as they could be but nowhere near ideal. It will take decades to undo McTurtle's doings, and that is why he reigns supreme as the most consequential senate minority and majority leader of all time.

That's certainly a more detailed assessment. Irrespective of how we refer to them, they need to be as neutered as possible.

The law is not a suicide pact.  if following the law produces a result that will fundamentally destroy the society that "the rule of law" was intended to protect, then you have not only the right, but the duty, to ignore the law and fight for the rights and wellbeing of everyone in that society.

More to the point, if by following the rules, and maintaining strict adherence to the rule of law, produces the theocratic fascist state that the right wing so desperately desires, then damn the law, and damn all those who defend it as being holy.
