I try to balance this by not paying taxes.

Just the evidence I need for slaughtering all the politicians in Washington.

thank god that the senators biographical information includes such vital information like "religion" and "marital status". one wonders what their turn-ons include...

Where's the vote for the pay raise thing? Or was that just Congress?
2002-02-13 12:20:53 AM
the description assumes that the slobbering, gibbering masses even remember what commitments were made. not bloody likely.

"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere."
-Thomas Jefferson to Abigail Adams, 1787

Jeez, my "democratic" senator (Barbara Boxer) voted for an $8.5 billion increase in defense, a $1.5 trillion taxcut by 2010, and limited oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

If I didn't know any better I'd think she was a Republican.

And if I really didn't know any better, I'd think there really isn't a difference between a republican and a democrat!

Senate Best and Brightest:

The following Senators received 100% ACU ratings for 2001:

Richard C. Shelby (R-AL)
Frank H. Murkowski (R-AK)
John Kyl (R-AZ)
Wayne Allard (R-CO)
Pat Roberts (R-KS)
Jim Bunning (R-KY)
Robert C. Smith (R-NH)
Jesse Helms (R-NC)
Rick Santorum (R-PA)
Strom Thurmond (R-SC)
Bill Frist (R-TN)
Robert Bennett (R-UT)

Where is my drool cup...
2002-02-13 12:24:51 AM
I don't have to look...my Senators for the last 4 years were Ted Kennedy & John Kerry. I know they didn't lie. They were very upfront. Their theory is "we're rich--we can give up 50% of our income--you should too! I mean, really, how can the underclass afford lottery tickets and Beanie Babies without Federal assistance? Oh...and pot? Cars? Guns? We don't think you should own any of those things."

Still pissed that Carla Howell lost.
2002-02-13 12:26:04 AM
It's strange that they didn't list the votes as for or against the respective measures, but rather whether the votes were for or against how the ACU (American Conservative Union) wanted to vote. Sort of misleading, IMHO.
2002-02-13 12:26:35 AM
What's worse? "France surrenders" or "*grabs popcorn*"?
2002-02-13 12:27:09 AM
Here in N.J., John Corzine LITERALLY bought his senate seat. It amuses me to watch all the N.J. Union voters who go ga-ga for the Liberal Democrat candidates. They say "He's lookin' out for me, the workin' man!"

Yeah. Right. Then the same "Workin' Man" gets taxed right out of the very town he grew up in because his liberal senator and new governor feel that the suburbs should support the inner cities.

Ooops! Was that a rant?

"Each generation is as independent as the one preceding, as that was of all which had gone before. It has then, like them, a right to choose for itself the form of government it believes most promotive of its own happiness . ."

Now, if it were a slightly less biased site that was hosting the 'data', then I'd be more inclined to attach importance to their listed findings.
2002-02-13 12:29:35 AM
What a useful resource.

After all, who was it who said "People have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook."

Don't worry, I know.

After all, if the media doesn't watch them - and they don't - who will? Guess we have to. Just like Tommy J., bless his hot-for-slaves heart.
2002-02-13 12:30:29 AM
My Senator voted against the Dairy Cartel! Like he will ever get my vote again!
2002-02-13 12:30:57 AM

Wait...liberals aren't "down with the people?"

No! That's not what they said on NPR...
2002-02-13 12:31:10 AM
No shiat, JerseyTim, starting off a thread with "grabs popcorn" is like starting off a day reading FAMILY CIRCUS.
2002-02-13 12:32:51 AM
and yeah, as Shigelojoe so accurately points out, know your source. Everyone who ever lived near Kentucky knows Jim Bunning has taken one to the head too many times.
2002-02-13 12:34:16 AM
Long live the republic.
2002-02-13 12:35:30 AM
consider the biased source of the website...
2002-02-13 12:37:14 AM
Wow...the data says that my senators are conservative...what a shocker...perhaps that's why I voted for them.

One of my roommates has done a list exactly like this but on the state level for a group he worked for. Thought I'd share that little factoid nugget.
2002-02-13 12:39:26 AM
Millay my friend, the old saying says, " Be liberal in thy youth, but conservative in thine own maturity."

Whoever said this was a filthy kid-toucher.

Oh and Millay, no the Libs aren't "Down with the people," they're "In on the perpetration."
2002-02-13 12:39:33 AM
Did Quick1 mean popcorn, or c*ckporn?
2002-02-13 12:41:05 AM
Love that blurb right below the charts.

"Republicans are uppercase, Democrats are lowercase."

Did they mean "caste"?

Quick1: Big 'n Natural?

And is Orville dead yet?
2002-02-13 12:46:04 AM
Orville is a cartoon, logic suggests he is as dead as Colonel Sanders.
2002-02-13 12:47:11 AM
Yes, Orville is dead.

Damn, Orville is one ugly mutha.
2002-02-13 12:54:16 AM
Stevenv: Orville wasn't a cartoon. And after a quick search, I see he did die. Poor bastard drowned in a whirlpool (1995).

Orville Redenbacher's background was in agricultural science, and he was famous for his popcorn. He grew up on an Indiana farm and attended Purdue University. In the 1940s, he started developing corn hybrids. In 1965, after trying 30,000 different strains, Redenbacher identified a kernel that expanded up to 20 times its original size when popped. Ten years later, his popcorn company was the industry leader. Redenbacher, who appeared on the label and in commercials, later sold the company. On September 19, he drowned in Coronado, California, in a whirlpool after suffering a heart attack. Redenbacher was 88.

Threadjacking good.

MY2 you're the "pop on once a week chick"aren't you ?
2002-02-13 12:57:18 AM

Yes, I Know.

This may be a tangent, but calling all liberals...my income is below the Federal Poverty line. Please send money. NOW. My cable bill needs to be paid. I have no X-Box, only N64. I'm allergic to waking up before 10am. My Honda Civic needs to be tricked out. My color TV is only 16". They've raised the price of a Bud 30-Pack. It's all Enron's fault. Clearly, the bourgeoisie is out to get me.

*grabs nuts, not popcorn*

Orville looked better before his new diet
2002-02-13 12:59:41 AM
BetchaCantEatJustOne: Apparently the new Orville popcorn commercials (with Orville as a cartoon) haven't started showing on any networks you watch.

Stevenv: I wonder if they'll animate Dave Thomas?
