either Trackhouse made Chip a hell of an offer to make him walk away or Chip just wanted to cut back. he only got into NASCAR ownership because Target wanted to be there and he wanted their money. now that they're gone - why bother sticking around?

/guess we're going to see a lot more of Pitbull at races, aren't we?

At the end of this season, however, the NASCAR operations will be sold off to Trackhouse Racing. If you're not familiar with Trackhouse, the team debuted this season as a joint venture between racer Justin Marks and Grammy-winning artist Armando Christian "Mr. Worldwide" "Pitbull" Perez.

Well, that's one way to bring "Dale" back to what was once Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.

/this was funnier in my head

..also Suarez is getting one of the rides, and neither Kurt nor Chastain are guaranteed the other one

Dale Jr said this week he didnt think he would move his Xfiniity team up to Cup series due to the cost of the franchise fee. I wonder if there was a bit of bidding war.

I heard a rumor that Chip is going to lead the Toyota Hypercar effort in IMSA.

So who gets the other ride?  Kurt right now is in the playoffs while Chastain isn't, plus Kurt is a bigger name.

Kurt's sponsorship with Monster Energy is his. he brought that to the #1 team, so he's got some good options for next year. rumors I've heard are that 23XI wants to start a second team and is interested in him. as long as he has that deal, someone's going to give Kurt a car to drive.

I want to see Chastain stay with a good ride - he's starting to prove that he belongs in the cup series. he's always been fast, but made a ton of mistakes that got other drivers pissed off at him. seems to finally be getting the message this season that he doesn't always need to do that.

not sure what Trackhouse will end up doing. keeping Kurt is the safe bet - he brings money, can win you a race or possibly two next season if they put the cars under him, but he's at the end of his career and may only stick around a year or two. keep Chastain in the car - he could develop into a star for the next decade, or without a veteran teammate there for guidance, things could go south quickly. going to be interesting to see what they do

If Kurt retires, the mix of Xanax and booze in the booth will make Mike Joy's job interesting.
