Ummm...that has been going on for a while. I forget who owns the Weather Channel but if I remember correctly it is some environmentalist group or something like that.

The climate is a communist myth used as an excuse to end capitalism. Are you dumb enough to fall for it?

Not me. I follow actual science.

Given that climate change is wreaking all kinds of havok on weather patterns, it does make sense they'd be covering its effects, especially when they're doing the longer-term "this is what kind of summer we're expecting" type of forecasting.

They've been fairly forward-thinking for corporate types for a long time - even back in the '70's.  For corporate types, mind you - they're hardly rampaging the Japanese whale fleets or blowing up bulldozers, but as companies go they're kinda surprisingly concerned with that.  Best guess is someone finally had the "Hmm - it's hard for a company to continue to exist in a catastrophically farked environment" epiphany around then.

And that 'part of the world' is only gonna get bigger. Recent examples: Texas and Canada.

It's gonna get a whole lot worse before it gets better. And if we don't farking do something, it's only gonna start getting better long after human society (or at least a MASSIVE chunk of it) is wiped out.

It's okay, were just staring the top half of a solar climax that will last about 5 years. I'd say things will get better circa 2026, but we'll probably screw the atmosphere even more by then.

73% of Americans surveyed by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication expressed a belief that global warming is taking place, with only 10% suggesting the opposite.

So 10% think that global cooling is taking place? Where do they live, and how do I get in touch with a local real estate agency?

Hey, try to be a little more optimistic...

If we get some massive volcanic activity, a massive asteroid impact, or a nuclear war... We'll get some serious cooling... after the initial "OMG FIRE" stage.

Is it feasible to place giant mirrors in the arctic to restore the planets lost albedo? It would impact warming immensely.

True. If the Yellowstone Caldera blew we'd have a lot of cooling (and gazillions dead). But we'd have the climate change deniers saying, "see, we worried about rising temperatures for NOTHING!"

One in one of their dumber movies, The Weather Channel sold off weather.com to IBM. but the channel itself was owned by Comcast and then sold off to vulture capitalists.

Ever since they started started naming winter storms, I've avoided them. I use Dark Sky on my iPhone, NWS or my local NBC station for my weather information. For national stuff, I'll use WeatherNation since they keep things like how Weather Channel used to be in the 80s/90s before they started making TV shows and going derpy.

Maybe all the meteorologists can go on the air simultaneously and shoot themselves.
People will talk about it for days. Then they'll get back to doing exactly what they were doing before.

Thank God we have a sturdy foundation of believing in our own immortality, or we might be traumatized by our upcoming extinction.

You can find those as NOAA/NHC.  Right down to the data sets so you can do some of your own analysis.

I live in michigan.  we just had a bout of 90+ temps, and then the monsoons came and we have massive flooding.  we also have poisonous snakes, brown recluses and black widows.  AND we then get friggin snow in the winter.  So we get the best of both worlds.  Yay.  Remove snow plz.

Either way, The focus on Climate science is a GOOD thing.  Dismissing it as 'Hippie nonsense' is stupid and anyone who takes that position needs to have their degree and/or high school diploma revoked. The time for debate about this is over.

Climate change is happening.  We're the primary cause. The planet is reaching tipping points beyond which there is no recovery.  The rest of the debate is specious. The only valid remaining question is "How do we fix it?"

If a person doesn't want to be part of the solution, they can off themselves and be part of the precipitate.

A Cave Geek: The only valid remaining question is "How do we fix it?"

I'm personally a fan of doing what the Dutch did to make cities cooler, both metaphorically and physically.  Those six lane boulevards?  Make 'em two lanes, add planters, sidewalks, cycletracks and some kind of transitway.  Then you can start looking at taking out large chunks of parking lots and turning them into greenspaces, homes and businesses.

Helps with drainage to make the flooding that's only going to get worse, too, since most road surfaces are impermeable but grass and trees and stuff soak that up.  Plus trees provide shade, which keeps more solar radiation from pumping more heat into the ground.

It's a small step in terms of climate change but a huge one in terms of improving livability.

All things need to be on the table.  More trees, less concrete, more cover crops, less shallow tilling, more compost, less fertilizer, more veggies, less meat...more solar, more wind, less coal, less oil, less gasoline, more electric.

As a species, we need to grow up.  We're out of our teen years, time to be adults about this.
