I am torn.

I mean fsck Amazon and Bezos, obviously.

But having my groceries delivered to my doorstep same day is pretty awesome.

Plus I don't like going to the store for most other things too.

By "lacks objectivity", Amazon of course means 'isn't in their pocket and/or kissing their ass'.

Fark off. It's VERY unlikely because America is capitalism's biatch, but I still hope Amazon gets broken up. Maybe drop a few billion in fines on the predatory scumbags, too.

So, known tyrannical monopoly prefers to maintain its status as a tyrannical monopoly while excluding anyone with knowledge of their status as a tyrannical monopoly from being in any position to regulate or enforce laws pertaining to them being a tyrannical monopoly?

Would that be like a murder defendant objecting to the D.A. for having a prejudicial opinion because they had reviewed the evidence that clearly implicated the defendant in the murder?

Khan, the petition reads, "has on numerous occasions argued that Amazon is guilty of antitrust violations and should be broken up. These statements convey to any reasonable observer the clear impression that she has already made up her mind about many material facts relevant to Amazon's antitrust culpability as well as about the ultimate issue of culpability itself."

Well, she's not the judge or the jury is she?

"The e-commerce giant..."

Yeah, I'm done with Amazon. They need to go the way of Standard Oil. They have too much influence. Aside from Amazon and Whole Foods, they also have Amazon Web services (AWS), which is the largest cloud computing company. I can't choose to use websites which aren't on AWS, but I can choose to not shop Amazon, at least.

Letting corporations dictate to the federal government is a bold move.

Ah who am I kidding. Congress will roll over and give them whatever they want to keep the brib.. I mean fully legal and of course constitutional 'campaign contributions' coming in.

Of course you can choose to not visit websites hosted on AWS - it's just really inconvenient to do so.

In fact, it'll likely be even easier to find other companies to do that job if Amazon gets broken up and regulated.

The problem here is that without her and the  imminent departure of one of the other Dems on the FTC commission the votes on any investigations will be 2 Dem 2 Republican.  It's so blatantly obvious what they're trying to do here.

Hopefully they won't get away with it.

No. Who do fines financially benefit. The government levying the fines.

Wouldn't it be better forcing Amazon to increase their lower level employees' wages and improve their working conditions? That would financially hurt Amazon just the same, but the money would be directly helping people.

Just keep in mind that there's a very good chance that the guy delivering your food to your place might have had to us your package to balance himself while he crapped into a bag in the back of the truck right next to your tasty goodies because there's not enough time allotted by the algorithms for bathroom breaks.

Bon appettit!

If the government can't make an antitrust case against Amazon without one guy or girl it's already crippled.

Isn't the general consensus around here that getting something frivolous in less than 2 hours in any major city -  packed in lots of non renewable and renewable resources, delivered by internal combustion engine, powered by people banned from organizing for their rights who are working for less that poverty wages   -

is the greatest thing since sliced bread?

As they find new loopholes, we should pass new laws to get around those loopholes.

I didn't make up the term. It just goes on my HR paperwork. It basically means that I make all the big decisions for getting stuff deployed in a way that's secure, but not so complicated to where the programmers give up. Most programmers are good at writing code, but have no idea how to make it useful. Yay, your algorithm works. Now how do people get to it? No, you can't just magically open it to the entire internet.
