Is this not the same drummer?

That's just Steve Moore doing his thing. It's part of the act.  Funny, yes, but they would do it three times a night if they could book the gigs.

I'd love to see him in a real band and not a musical version of the Harlem Globetrotters to see how good he actually is.

What's he do?

Seriously, I'm not seeing anything earth shattering here.

He goes all George of the Jungle on his kit a couple times.

Me, I would say that it was a poorly staged "spontaneous" moment. The OP wants you to believe that the drummer got all excited during his 783rd performance of a 60 year-old song. Performed by a bunch of people in lame and toupees.

I like it.  He played alternately insolently and sarcastically.  A performer as well as a drummer.

meh, the orig was crazier.

PLUS!

The group's most notable lineup is considered to be Joey Dee, David Brigati, Larry Vernieri (vocals), Carlton Lattimore (organ), Sam Taylor (guitar) and Willie Davis (drums). Actor Joe Pesci played guitar with the group for a time in the '60's. (wiki)

"Show Band/Cruise Gigs" = living wage

I know all kinds of musicians who take that kind of paying gig and use the money to fund their passion projects.  There's an electric violinist, Mark Wood who I got to know a little at a non-traditional (not classical, basically) strings camp.  He was a part of getting Trans-Siberian Orchestra up to the scale they became.  He has toured with them.  But he said what really brought in the cash and let him do what he wanted was touring with Celine Dion.

They should probably get a band leader who can engage the crowd but can also sing well. That guy has the voice of someone who does karaoke once or twice a year when they go out and get drunk with friends.

I don't care how good your show is if you don't have the voice to sing the songs hire someone who can and just be the emcee. If you are charging for your services you have to be better than mediocre.

The beat wasn't right, the guitar player doesn't play 50s R&R at all, there was no baritone sax and wtf is a trumpet doing on that song? Lame.
