A few years ago Adam Blampied did a "How I would book it" that ended with a returning Punk and Daniel Bryan staring each other down as WrestleMania went off the air.  It was goddamned brilliant.

I hate it.  I'll say the same thing I said watching Wrestlemania 27, WrestleMania should not be used to set up Backlash.

It was a good shoot, obviously historic given we're still talking about it, and how accurate it's become, but there have been better shoots.

1) Scott Stiner shoots on Ric Flair on Nitro in early 2000, nothing earth-shattering, just full of vitriol and hate
2) Syxx-Pac becomes X-Pac, joining D-X, and shoots on Eric Bischoff; IMO, the real turning point of the Monday Night Wars
3) Paul Heyman shoots on TNN
4) Eddie Gurrerro shoots on Eric Bischoff, throwing coffee on himself, saving Bischoff the trouble

Nah, as great as Eddie would become the Eddie one wasn't that good. At that point he still wasn't terribly good on the mic, so the delivery was a little too acted. Also the overuse of "you know what" in place of "ass" or even "butt" was weird and annoying

Can't forget Kaufman and Lawler, even though I did before Googling "worked shoots" just now

I actually had an idea close to that for Punk's return in time for Wrestlemania that year.  A riff on the whole "Where's the Undertaker?" angle from the 90s and it would end in Punk returning at a PPV/Raw close to Wrestlemania.

The more time goes on, the more Punk is proven right that WWE will not get better until MeekMahan shuffles off this mortal coil.  He couldn't even understand how Broken/Woken Matt Hardy worked.  Selling WWE won't work, either, since Vince will negotiate staying in control.

Backlash?  A Bryan/Punk angle over who the real champ is could have carried all the way to the next WM.

You know WWE's in bad shape when they had their perfect monster heel character in Braun Stroman...and released him.

It's one thing when you had a Vader-like character sign with you, it's another when you created the character yourself and you still didn't know how to promote them properly.
