And speaking of trailer parks, what do you want to bet that the "great-grandmother" was, like, 40?

that's farkin freaky. I'm waiting for a followup to confirm the bones belonged to a black female (you can usually tell race and sex from bone structure).... and then i'll start crying like a child. it'd be really hard to call this a coincidence.

Here's a local news link

Much more detail, and even more of a mystery:

"The bones probably don't have enough marrow to do DNA tests, Taylor said. Because the trailer has been moved several times between Georgia and Alabama, investigators now are faced with the daunting task of trying to track down missing children from a wide area in two states.

Ooooooooooooh. That was creepy, and morbid...but I do believe that kids can see things more readily that adults can. (Yes, I believe in that hooey, now) When my son was three once, we were on a tour of a historic home with my mom, and my son stopped in the front parlour, said "Hi", and when I asked who he was speaking to, he just insisted that there was a man playing a piano in the corner. There wasn't even a piano there. He was upset the man wouldn't look at him.

Ghosts are attention whores.

2004-10-06 09:15:02 AM
This story has the chilling flavor of...bullshiat.

Ghost stories always give me that creepy, sinister feeling that people are superstitious dweebs.

"I want to believe!"

Pbbbbbt.

2004-10-06 09:15:26 AM
Oh. Forgot the best, and perhaps less supernatural part:

"Taylor said gnaw marks on the bones may indicate a rodent placed them inside the insulation. Dirt and plant material on the bones indicate they were outside at one time, Taylor said."

There goes the ghost story.

Yeah, because it certain makes sense to ignore the obvious possibilities like "this girl witnessed the other girl being murdered or buried in the trailer and expressed her repressed memory of the incident in the fantasy of an imaginary friend" and consider "ghosts and spookie oooky things" instead.

/me slaps forehead

Nice reference! I saw that movie long ago, and, since then, our family refers to every pig we see as "Jodie". A ghost is one thing, but a talking ghost pig that can change size is just too good to forget! :)

It's every child's dream to become friends with the ghost of a dead little girl with a mask on who graphically describes her murder with every visit...

Kids can insist a lot of stupid things and be very stubborn about them. That doesn't make them real. Don't forget which of you is the adult.

Go on, say: "there ain't no such things as ghosts", 'cuz I ain't listenin'.

one of my friend's boyfriends has done research work with this show and he was a true blue skeptic. Not anymore.

He says he's seen stuff that would turn your hair white, and he is rational toa fault.

This reminds me of a scare several years ago in Denver: The grisly discoveries of dismembered homeless men had everyone jumpy that a sicko serial killer was on the loose, and people got all panicky and made up all sorts of wild stories, usually involving fluff like you see in these stupid slasher/ghost movies. Ooga Booga!

Then forensics determined that the fellows had died naturally and then had been disturbed and scattered by racoons and coyotes. No creepy serial killer. Just frozen, alcohol-poisoned hobos exposed to hungry scavengers.

Is reality objective or subjective?

That depends on you.

Creepy!

I have a friend whose house was haunted by a dead child named Didi. Didi would try to suffocate her in her sleep. Her younger brother could actually talk to Didi. She told him that she was a "repeating spirit from a past life." True. Story.

2004-10-06 09:24:19 AM
Hrm... strange. I had a dream about a ghost last night... a ghost that haunted a building of a college I don't attend, in a building thats made up, and it killed a few people. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

But seriously folks, I'm almost certain my old house was haunted... I'd wake up, walk into the hall, and see things, such as a tuxedo without a body, walking towards me. Other people in the house noticed things too. I'm quite glad I moved.

This news item reads a lot like the horror novel Lost Boys by Orson Scott Card.

/I need to get a new copy. The old one fell apart.

This is basicly the plot from the book "Lost Boys" by Orson Scott Card.

hrm.... yep, Northern Georgia. Must be an old Cherokee or Choctaw house.

1) Columbus isn't really Northern Georgia.
2) Cherokee and Choctaw lived in trailers?
