I didn't really like most of the movie the first ten or twenty times I watched it, but that taxi scene at the beginning was always an inspiration to me in my cabby days. The customer is always right and if they insist on being a total biatch then you must treat them as such or you have failed them as a driver.

I started and funnied because I have used the line, "You should See what I could with à spatula "
Some laughed others were curious and then there were those who looked at me like I have three heads. Didn't always work out for me.  Single and enjoying it...

First version I saw of this was lightly edited for 80's UK TV. That meant no trip off base to go a-toking and no boobies outside of the mud-wrestling scene (where all jubblies were mostly covered). You really couldn't see the joins which is a mark of how pointless those scenes were with regards to the overall plot.

Watching the full movie for the first time a couple of years ago and those scenes stuck out like sore thumbs & actually spoiled my nostalgic memory of the film.

At least the lovely Ashleigh got a kick out of it.

Why did PJ Soles leave acting after this film? After this and Rock & Roll High School, she could have ruled Hollywood in the 80's.

I went through that obstacle course for basic and even though it wasn't raining I was terrified I was going to fall off the pole and smash my nuts.

We used those old barracks to practice room and building clearing and learning what fatal funnels were by getting shot in the face and dick with paintballs.

I still love the line... "You can't leave! All the plants will die!"

Just recently our girlfriend moved in and asked if we had an ice cream scoop to serve up dessert. I replied no, but we do have a smooth top range and an array of spatulas. Unfortunately I may be too old and stiff to fit in a footlocker nowadays.

My older brother got his hands on a second VCR and managed to rig them together to put rented movies onto a blank tape.

He only did it twice with Stripes and 48 Hours on the same tape and to this day I could probably quote along with the entirety of both movies.

Stripes may have been one of the first films of my adolescence that had a woman in her underwear. The VCR's pause button got a work out for PJ getting out of the footlocker, and Murray's girlfriend at the start of the film when they're bickering.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they got rid of the dated Aunt Jemima imagery and name, but... Well... Pearl Milling Company? It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, now does it?

They should have grabbed another mascot and slapped it on there. They're owned by Quaker, so why not just use the Quaker guy? Quaker Pancakes. Sounds fine. Quaker syrup. Works.

OK, yeah, replacing the black woman with an old white man might not work. You'd get a different set of complaints about white-washing.

Still... Pearl Milling Company. Bleh. No poetry to that title whatsoever. They should have made a cartoon character. An ant named Jerimiah, perhaps? Then it could have been Ant Jerimiah Pancakes and Ant Jerimiah Syrup. That works!

If someone had told me a couple of years ago that I'd be watching other people watch movies, I'd have said they had lost their minds.

But Ashleigh's a lot of fun to watch.

It's interesting to get another person's perspective, especially when their personality shines through like hers does.

Because I have way too much time on my hands and no social life for the last quarter century, here's a few others some of y'all might enjoy.

https://www.youtube.com/c/MagicMagy/videos

https://www.youtube.com/c/NatalieGoldReacts/videos (She's a lot of fun, but watch yourself if you're using headphones. The experience can be quite loud.)

https://www.youtube.com/c/MaryCherryOfficial/videos

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWH6O3GL1sLj-cIjukOmppQ/videos (Anime focus, rises some good questions)

https://www.youtube.com/c/ShanelleRiccio/videos (more of a focus on the technical side, her Clue reaction was great, assuming you enjoyed Clue)

https://www.youtube.com/c/DuaffyMS/videos (very sharp reactor in my opinion, and it doesn't hurt that she has a lovely accent)

Each one brings different things to the table, and they have all caught things I didn't, even in movies I'd watched a dozen times.

I went to Ft. Knox for basic and AIT- they had wrapped filming there earlier in the year. Wasn't common knowledge among the recruits, so imagine our delight when my AIT Troop were marched to the post movie theater and it hit the screen. We went through that reception hall, had the same crappy barracks, and the obstacle course was a whole lot more fun after that. Everyone had to run over that log.

/ Yes I'm old
/ Yes, the movie was hilarious
/ Yes, we sang the Armed Service recruiting song as cadence after that

Lots of support. Filmed on Ft. Knox and all those tanks and other vehicles were crewed by troops from the Armor training brigade. My recruiter was the TC of one of the tanks that were driving around. He said they just kept going in circles around and around and around the same couple of streets.
