Twenty-eight years later, the 6-foot-4 comedian, with the swooping red hair, becomes history's longest-running late night host

uh...Letterman was on late night for 33 years I think?

Man I'm going to miss Conan. I admit I haven't watched in years, but in college he just felt so different from Letterman and Jay. I mean Letterman was the Conan of his day, I'm not knocking the guy, but he phoned it in for at least the last 3-4 years of his career.

The late 90's and early 2000's was such a great time for comedy evening talk shows.... Conan, Daily show, Colbert report.

Is that a funny, funny original joke format implying that you don't hink Conan oBrien appeals to anyone?

Very clever. Gold star for you.

I'd like to discuss how Andy Richter has a string of fantastic sitcoms that were cancelled well before their time. Just rewatched Andy Richter, PI (6 episodes of awesome). Would love to watch Controls the Universe again but I don't think it's streaming anywhere.

Didn't he have one about quintuplets or something? That one was probably crap.

I got huge respect for Andy here. Conan took a fake hit, and Andy shows he's an old pro

And Carson was on for 30.  Conan does, however, have the distinction of being the longest running late night host entirely post-Carson.

Conan Without Borders is on HBO Max and well worth seeing. The Ghana and Haiti episodes are particularly good. And the Greenland one. Italy is a bit much Jordan Shalansky. Also I need a life

WhiskeySticks: Only caught one show this past week. Did he even have Norm on any of the final episodes?! Shame if he didn't.

No Norm in the episodes, but I suspect Norm would decline if asked (and I cant possibly imagine he didn't get some kind of invite), he seems to prefer his random meaningless appearances and even more random "stories" he brings to be low key and a random surprise, just the fact it was an event he would probably say "eh, seems a lot of bother, maybe I'll go the next time he ends his show...."

That one is great. I use this picture as an avatar on a lot of platforms:

I also loved the "taint removal" and "napster hearings" skits. (I'm not too sexy for a day old bagel, I'm hungry) Oh and the Boston teens skit with Ben Affleck. It was a really good episode and close to the top of that era IMO.

That was a horrible show, but I loved it. I didn't have a tv at the time, so I'd stop in at my neighbor's place to watch The Norm Show, Newsradio, and Kids In the Hall. Oh.. also Mystery Science Theater.

All over the air. We had fewer choices, but somehow there was better content.

I'm still looking for the clip of Mr. Denby saying "ah... ah... hoisted by your own petard"
