Omg I loved that movie when I was a kid.

2021-06-24 6:47:34 PM
I also remember watching that so much as a kid.  Scared to watch it now.

That movie was terrible when I was a kid too.

"Space herpes" is a thing in the game Barotrauma. It's basically submarines full of farkers, highly recommended.

I saw that movie in the theater in 9th grade and it insulted my intelligence even then. I thought my friend was an idiot for laughing during it. Stupid movie and not in a good way.

They don't castrate clergy, just in case.

I have it on DVD and watch it when I want some cheesy stuff to laugh at.  XD

2021-06-24 7:23:19 PM
I still occasionally watch that movie.  I only remember the space herpe and the time fight, though.  The rest of it must be pretty forgettable since I've forgotten it a half dozen times.

I STILL love that movie. 😁

The scene with the choppers will stay with you.

I watched it several dozen times on cable, back in the day.  Silly and fun.

If only there was another way to obtain video that isn't readily available for sale.

I distinctly remember seeing this in the theater; I would have been about 10. Not really sure how that happened. Maybe my parents thought Children of the Corn was too much.

To be fair, it was just a reference to the shiatty Kelven timeline. You'll know we're in the mirror universe when Jay starts referencing TNG.

I'm sad for people who don't understand that it is a parody movie.

Watched the hell out of that movie when I was a kid. It doesn't make much sense but there's always something interesting happening.

The time warp fight is gloriously awesome.

I mean, the people making the movie didn't start out making a parody. That's just where they landed because they couldn't make their good movie.

I find these guys insufferable.

They may be right with their reviews but I can't stand their presentation.

I think the castration scene proves they knew what they were doing. While so many of the jokes are flat, they're making them the entire movie.

Now Spacehunter; Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, that's an unaware and unfunny (maybe hot dogs is worth a chuckle) shiat movie.

I don't understand your comment.

I was merely saying I wasn't a fan of how they present their reviews, spot on as some may be!

No need to wet the bed, Mrs. Plinkett!

Oh, no!  I agreed with everything Plinkett said in his review!  I love that it's actually longer than the movie itself!!

And I don't even mind the Plinkett character!  I just don't like THEM (re:view, half in the bag).

You shut your mouth!  That movie is a love letter to pulp scifi, and Molly Ringwald was awesome in it!  IN 3-D!

It is a fun movie - Angelica Huston cuts a dude in half, Ron Perlman is a jerky pirate, Bruce Vilanch is a talking head - literally...and yes castration and space herpes jokes.  Is it corny, stupid, and over the top?  Yes.  It is a movie that is just fun and goofy that doesn't take itself seriously.  It might not be for everyone but it is something I would watch again and again (unlike say Marriage Story.  Marriage Story is fine but one viewing was enough).

/Space Hunter was also fun
//Message from Space is also fun but a different kinda vibe

I have no familiarity with them and they come across as insufferable millennial and late Gen X douchebags in this. One of them it said it best, they are man-children still picking at their childhoods instead of just accepting how weird, fun, and awesome their childhoods were and moving on.

I mean they are dragging a movie that was clearly made for the lulz. Anyone with functioning braincells can see it's not some high concept serious picture. It doesn't have to make sense. It was made to be fun, and it is. Simple as that.

Yeah, there's plenty to cringe about looking at it with modern eyes. The material dates it. So what? It's an old movie tied forever to the time when it was made. That's not a crime, it is what it is. Doesn't mean it okay to do that NOW because we're in a radically different time.

Ice pirates holds up fine as exactly what it was: A stupid 80s sci-fi movie. And yes I do own it on DVD.

I remember really, really wanting to see that as a kid. Never got the chance. And I've still not seen it - but I suspect I missed my window. 12 year-old me would probably enjoy it a lot more than 48 year-old me.

It's been a team effort. I try to get most of the Re:Views & BotW spotlights posted, but it's still about 50:50.

This one wasn't one mine, but I'm just happy I'm not the only one who appreciates their genius.
