Can't the DNC do anything about this? You can't tell me that the party leadership can't just go to those two and say "Look, you don't fall in line on this, then you're not allowed to run on our ticket. Good luck running as a third party."

Pelosi's move may allow the House to avoid a dreaded Lucy-and-the-football scenario, in which a dramatically reduced infrastructure bill would pass the Senate with bipartisan support but without a firm commitment from centrist Democrats to pass a separate larger package via reconciliation without GOP help.

Oh so it's no problem, centrist Democrats are known for offering very firm commitments to pass items they want to kill and blame on republicans.

I just hope that history shows that people trying to hold onto an outdated energy generation method and "I broke the function of government before it was cool." are things that future generations laugh at and never let happen again.

Biden just said he's not singing the infra bill if it's the only lonely.

"Bring me the Recky or go inject pot like Becky!!" he screamed full-throated to his exuberant fans gathered at Wembley to hear releases from his new album Fear The Blow before he smashed a guitar into an amp.

God do I love that gif. CSB:  In the before time, when people worked in an office near other people, I used to Slack that to people when I wanted to see if someone was available for a conversation without doing anything more intrusive. Either I'd get no response or they would respond by playing along like I did that for real. "My f__king eye! WTF man? What do you want? Was the fish really necessary?"

/"Ow! That really hurt! Honestly, who throws a fish?"

Dems: "We're asking for new bridges in New York, Missouri, and Florida."

GQP: "We'll pass your infrastructure bill if you agree to outlaw abortion and make English the official national language."

Dems: "........."

Joe Manchin: "Why won't they pass a bipartisan bill? It's such a mystery. We need to work with our colleagues across the aisle and compromise to get our nation in top shape."

Yet another painful strike against a radical, ineffective president who can't even convince his own party to follow along with his free unicorn handout. We warned you over and over that exactly this scenario would play out from the reasonable centrist wing. I expect nothing less than a groveling, tear-filled apology from every BernieBro who put President Sanders in power.

^ This.

I suspect that for the older one, the price is just the usual, though maybe a bit less because he's no longer a single key man.

For the newer one, it just seems that the media exposure alone is worth it before making a change to the R party somewhere around early 2024.

Yeah right.

Lord of the Rings may have been a bit trite and overblown, but Tolkien sure got one thing right: not even the best among us is immune to the corrupting influence of power.  Once you have it, it is almost impossible to let it go.

The crowd of dying octogenarians piling up in Congress and the Supreme Court are a pretty good example of that.

That was the deal...

Republicans got a cut down infrastructure package.
Democrats got promises that Republicans wouldn't filibuster the main budget.

Nancy is just iterating that they're not just going to trust the republicans to hold up their end of the deal... they're gonna get the budget through first, THEN the slimmed down infrastructure package... if Republicans try to welch on their deal, then a whole lot of other options are right back on the table again...

Kangaroo_Ralph: Biden: We need bipartisanship
Pelosi: But not in that direction

Republicans have made it damn clear over the last 12 years that they think 'bipartisanship' means 'Republicans get everything they demand, Democrats get nothing'. In other words, Republicans don't give a flying fark about actual bipartisanship, and expecting them to negotiate in anything resembling good faith is a fool's errand.

Pelosi's commitment means that Senate Democrats will have to agree among themselves on a reconciliation deal as they continue to negotiate the bipartisan infrastructure package.

Which is NOT going to happen.  If it does seem to happen, Sinema will out-cute both chambers as she gives it her thumbs-down at the vote.

"I'm not sure raising the capital gains taxes to the ordinary rates is the right answer," Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) said in an interview with Bloomberg last month. "There is a sweet spot where you can raise capital gains, still have a differential between capital gains and ordinary income, and still generate more revenue."

Name it, motherf*cker.

Pelosi made it as clear as possible in the presser that the House would not act until the Senate found a way to deliver a reconciliation bill. That includes a scenario in which bipartisan talks fall through.

So they ain't gon' do shiat, and now Manchin, Sinema, and every other "moderate" Democrat who wants to curry favor with their paymasters can hold both the House AND the Senate hostage.  Delightful.

It's Schumer who needs to get his shiat together.  Him and Durbin.

Manchin and Sinema don't answer to the DNC (none of them do)

They're elected by the constituents that vote for them, and they're obligated to do what they believe those constituents elected them to do.

At least that's how Democracy is supposed to work here in the US

Honestly, nothing is ever "good enough" in government until we get one that has a single-payer healthcare system, a modern public high speed transportation system that gives Amtrak it's own train lines and doesn't have to sit aside for freight to pass by, wealthy people are taxed equitably, government protection of unions and worker rights, mental health and drug abuse is treated (not punished), and helping the poor have homes, jobs and food.

But of course because "I might be wealthy one day, so I got to protect my future wealth" is a thought inside the head of morons, people vote against their own interests.

I'm sure when you are put up to the wall to be shot by Republicans in a future fascist society for some "crime" dictated by President DeSantis (or Tom Cotton), you'll be happy to die thinking: "Well, it's a law, so I have the moral high ground to just be shot and not fight back."
