My (somewhat garrulous) chemist insisted on giving me a lecture on the need to stay hydrated, and laughed when I told her about beer. For some reason assumed I was joking

Yes, definitely so important for them to have water available all day, every day.

I think a lot of people would be a lot healthier if they just drank a few liters of water a day.  My nephrologist was adamant about drinking lots of water.  I average around 4-5 liters a day.

I need to start doing this. The only thing stopping me is that my wife won't let me move my home office into the master bathroom.

I'm a purified bottled water/spring water addict.  When I drink tap water I can instantly taste the chlorine so much that it almost makes it unpalatable.  And I LOVE water.

It's very sad that municipal water throughout the US is so varied with regard to drinkability.  Here in the East Bay we have EBMUD and the water is exceptionally drinkable in many places barring other issues.  If I replaced the water in a bottle with tap water from our house you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference unless you like a particularly mineral tasting bottled water or something.  However, you can go to other nearby areas and the water will be shiat.  I had a friend who lived out in Clayton, which is about 30-40 or so minutes from here and has a number of supposedly upper-middle class developments and the water was absolutely awful, like they were just sending grey water through the faucets.  I guess it's good for the packaged water and delivery businesses though.  Then there's the whole other issue of water safety in so many areas.

I can only imagine what that tasted like.

Had a vanilla Absolute vodak and Vernor's tonight as a nightcap...it was pretty tasty.

National lie day. The very study where this misconception comes from concluded that you get most of your normal water needs from the food you eat. There is zero benefit from forcing down water if you aren't actually thirsty. You'll know when you need water.

Since I had my cancerous bladder removed, I can drink as much as I like. Hubby hooks me up to a hospital bed bag for log car trips and we don't have to stop often anymore. When "Bilbo" (Baggins, my ostomy bag on my stomach) is full, I can open the spout & release anywhere without fear of being indecent since he's above the beltline. I'm actually happier in many ways. Btw: not a colostomy bag, just urine.
