Well yeah, when you can't get a video card for less than $1500 you're going to play what your hardware supports

It's also as if video games  companies don't need to keep shoveling out derivative yearly releases to keep up the illusion of perpetual growth when their older games are perfectly fine or something.

Skyrim is nearly 10 years old and I still play it regularly. Hell, Morrowind is nearly 20 years old and I still load it up for a playthrough every year or two. Granted both of those owe their longevity to a healthy mod community, but the base game is still fun

I picked up ESO and 2 dlcs on sale and it's great. I get it that the interface is different, but it's still beautiful.
My 750 GTX runs it at 2k on ultra around 40 fps and I'm ok with that because it's beautiful. The aesthetic of Tamriel is most of the game for me.

City of Heroes was started 18 years ago then killed by its owner and now resurrected by fans.  It hasn't had a significant graphics upgrade in a decade yet every day 2-5 thousand people are playing it.  It just takes a compelling story, an easily learnable interface, and fun play.
If you look at Twitch more people are playing games 5+ years old than current games.

Me too. I have not watch it and probably won't, the description does not make any sense to me. I hope the plot include an explanation of why they go to the past to recruit soldiers to bring into the future instead of using the extra time to prepare.

Orrrr, and I'm just saying its a big or, it's because they gave away battlefield 4 for free (Prime) with the announcement of 2042, and that has a lot of people trying it out.

I still enjoy playing COD:WW2 from 2017 and it still has a fairly active player base. Nothing like the numbers at release and when it was releasing DLC, but I still find plenty of lobbies in the modes I want to play. I like filling daily orders/contracts in Shipment 24/7. For other fun I play War and Ground War: War. I feel they are absolute must plays for anyone who likes FPS gaming. Lately I have been playing Hordepoint, which is standard hardpoint but also hordes of zombies invade the hard point.. You've got to be able to take the hardpoint from your opponents, then hold it from them retaking it and also a steady stream of zombies flooding it. It is bonkers but so fun!

The fact that BF1 and V are ass, making 4 the most recent "good" game in the series, probably helps keep its player count high.

none of the more recent BFs have really held our attention.

PC only so. Bad Company 2 was good enough, 2/2142 was the pinnacle for us , and we barely played BF1, while BF4 was playable enough but lacked what i expected in a BF game.
The Caspian map is the poster of that change, It's small enough that from a central point on the map you can be anywhere quickly enough to defend it before it can be capped.
And the layout of the map gives far fewer sniper camping locations, far more coverage of the map.

In 2/2142 whole team tactics mattered a lot, you did need to be properly spread around to cover all the points.
And if you were not being properly sneaky long way round would net you a  back cap if they were not covering.
But ever sense BF4, things have gotten explicitly more CoD like, even with larger maps, actual team play coordination and critical thinking tactics don't really come into play much any more.

Small enough maps, great enough sniper coverage from few enough places, and enough individual freedom of movement. All that sums up to make that, advanced planing and group tactics don't really swing much weight, you can all just react from one moment to the next as uncoordinated individuals and that's plenty effective, within the game's designed environment of play.

When i saw the showcasing of grapple hook personal fast freedom of movement, that alone has a huge influence on my exceptions for this new one. When the individuals have personal ease freedom of fast movement, then in game by default, it's kinda hard to get them to stay in/work in a  group together.
They will just be off poof to wherever and whatever they peronsally imagined was fun or good to go do, without consideration of the team play aspect of the game.

And if the game wants to support that behavior, then design wise it will be and not play in such a way as to limit players by their team play efforts.
For example: Maybe you can just pick to have the easy fast personal movement, and the sniper rifle and the med kit(or if auto self heals then ammo resupply). And be the real lone wolf, with a pile of other lone wolfs all playing a "team based" game together.

As far as I know, this is the longest they've had unexpected downtime in 2 years.  Some problem with their host.  Sure they'll be back up soon enough.
