But now, its proudly Neanderthal, reactionary ethos aligns perfectly with the side of our political binary that Trump reconfigured: the one whose common denominator is a tooth-and-nail, middle-finger unwillingness to accept liberal social norms.

Also, Portnoy publicized an obvious decision (invest in companies that COVID destroyed) that made ridiculous amounts of money for people with the means and the will to listen.

Therefore, portnoy has more real world validation than any of the cultist horseshiat that the GQP has been pumping out for years (decades?).

As opposed to the AM radio stars who were the deep thinkers of the GOP in previous years.

Same sh*t, different sprinkles.

The GOP has always been the party of MRAs and fratfark douche bros. They were the scions of the segregated middle class, growing up on a diet of Archie Bunker and Gordon Gekko, trashing Comisky Park on Disco Demolition Night, listening to Limbaugh, Wally George, and Morton Downey Jr. ranting against the "Feminazis", joining Al Bundy's loyal NO MA'AM cult, forming the Tea Party, spearheading Gamergate, campaigning against trans people in sports and bathrooms, and celebrating Trump's bigotry as the most signifying feature of Trumpism.

It's all connected. It's all the same people. And it's all tied to the party's ethos: Preserving the position, power and privilege of rich white men in American society.

As a pretty active sports fan across several teams' fanbases, I can honestly say I do not have any use for barstoolsports. They can be counted on to supply the idiotic hot-takes that you would not bother arguing with in a bar if you were unlucky enough to sit within earshot of one.

aligns perfectly with the side of our political binary that Trump reconfigured

Trump didn't reconfigure anything.  He simply personified what the Republican party has always been to such an extent that the party establishment couldn't redirect enthusiasm towards anyone representing what the Republican party has pretended to be so they can keep being what they are.

Looks like East Asians have even more, but unsurprisingly Africans have the least, since the Neanderthals booked it out of Africa before H. sapiens left, and settled elsewhere

Interesting...I had thought that East Asians had a higher percentage of Denisovan DNA and lower percentage of Neanderthal DNA, but my information was either outdated or misremembered.

That said, I'll still take any excuse to mock white supremacists for failing to live up to their own standards.

You know Rush Limbaugh, and most of the conservative talk radio hosts all started out trying to be Sports Announcers, and they never went big time?  It's not that they would have been bad at sports radio, it's just a very competitive market, and so when rich sponsors were looking to launch conservative radio shows back in the 80s and 90s, they had a whole lot of failed sports guys to chose from.

Those same guys come in, and they glitz their shows up with the same style as sports broadcasting, that has been polished to appeal to a certain type of guy.  We then shouldn't act surprised when those very same targeted guys eat it all up, and start viewing at politics the way they do sports, as a team competition where they are okay with their team doing whatever to win, just for the sake of winning.

The rant about GenX controlling the culture was hilariously wrong.  Most of us are trying to keep our heads above water.  The boomers are dominant, and will absolutely demand social security, medicare, medicaid, and more.  Trump himself publicly supported social security.  Maybe subby and TFA author were thinking about the 1960s when conservatives wanted to openly repeal medicare?
We are headed to the GenX/Millenial era of US politics, which will further split rural and urban areas.  Unfortunately for red state Americans, they will need to survive clean drinking water, clean air, comprehensive health care, free higher education, and a dignified retirement.
The horror.

They're only slightly less open about it today.  Paul Ryan all but admitted that his goal in blowing up the national deficit was to give his fellow fiscal conservatives cover for repealing Medicare and Social Security.
