Taylor ham, egg, and cheese for New Jersey? Check.
Fried bologna for South Carolina? I spent my college years there and never knew of any place that even served it.

I also question this. I mean it's possible to find good pastrami sandwiches in Vegas, no doubt, but that's not really a thing that I'm aware of.

Pit beef for Maryland is a good choice (and sandwich) but I'm surprised they didn't pick a crab cake sandwich. Not that they're good, just that every place that sells crab cakes in MD (which is thousands of them) also offer crab cake sandwiches.

A good crab cake is easy to find here and is a thing to treasure. Briefly.

Well, that's horse-pucky.

Washington: Red king salmon

Red king salmon is abundant in Washington state's waters, and it's served in countless styles throughout the state. But if you visit a casual seafood shack, the best way to enjoy it is in a sandwich.

King salmon is also known as Chinook salmon, and, no, it's not "abundant." Throughout the state, they're threatened or endangered. We're doing our best to manage the situation, but we're still not hitting targets for sustainable fishing, either recreational or commercial.

Please, stop farking eating them for just a little while.

It isn't, and there is no way a pasty is the best sandwich in the state even if it were.

I mean, there isn't any one true best sandwich in any state anyway, but a frigging pasty? No.

I like for Kansas they chose a BBQ chain that was called OKLAHOMA Joe's until recently when there's a million better bbq joints serving up better KC style bbq (looking at you Gates, Harp, q39, etc).

Could've gone with a NuWay, Million Dollar Burger (from Bionic Burger) or even those delicious Cozy Inn Burgers.

Pittsburgh is just never going to win if it's about sandwiches (unless, maybe, if it's something like best sandwiches with the strangest ingredients), and a whole lot of these silly best in each state lists are about sandwiches.

When it's not about sandwiches, Pittsburgh seems to get the nod maybe 40% of the time.

What is your obsession with avocado on a sandwich being some kind of California thing?  It's not.  In ten+ years of living here I have never heard a single person from California ever talk about avocado on a sandwich as if it's a California thing, and I guanantee you nobody outside of California ever associates it with California.  It's also not exactly special.

Why are places and people so woefully dumb about matching the bread to the stuff inside?

Just out that fried meat on a plate and pair it with toast or an alternative carb. Sheesh.

Cincinnati is, shall we say, different.  (I don't go there myself, partly because it's 4-1/2 hours away and partly because the last time I went there it gave me some serious bronchitis.)

As a Bay Stater, if I have to ask what in the actual fark they think our state sandwich is, and it turns out it's just some random thing you can get in certain Italian restaurants in and around Boston, then the answer is no, it is not our state sandwich. If you don't have people around the state, especially one as small as ours, copying your brilliant idea then it's not such a brilliant idea, is it?

\besides, the short answer is "anything d'Angelos sells"

I have no idea what constitutes a pasty in the US but they're in every bakery or "gas station" (we call them "servos" here) in Australia. It's our take on the Cornish original, probably not that different, usually available for under five bucks it's a great lunch. Pastry on the outside, mince meat and potato/pumpkin/turnip type vegetables inside. Seen here with ketchup ("tomato sauce" in Australia, or just "sauce" and everyone knows what sauce you mean):
