I might tune in if it was a documentary.

If you are in the Boston area you can be on the show instead of just watching it. Sign up as an extra with Boston Casting. I am on their mailing list because I occasionally use my antique car for productions. Not interested in this myself though.

My cable system just redid their channel lineup and got rid of AMC

Will it be repeated? Will it be shown on Hulu the next day?

/ doesn't have Hulu, either

The AMC series puts a feminist twist on the typical laugh track sitcom, getting inside the head of the often overlooked housewife

In what sitcom is the housewife overlooked and the husband isn't the moron?

I know folks who worked on it. Every indication is that it's great, and Annie Murphy is terrific in it.

Likes Annie Murphy so much in Schitt's Creek I'm recording it and will watch soon thereafter. Fark commercials.

The review on The Atlantic referenced the words "female gaze" and even though I hadn't heard of it, that was enough to relegate it to shows "I might get around to watching when I retire."

I'm not out to solve every social injustice when I watch TV. I want to relax. To that end, I watched a horrible Nic Cage movie last night called "Willy's Wonderland" - based on Five Nights at Freddy's but they couldn't get the naming rights. It is exceptionally stupid, poorly written and directed, and Cage doesn't speak a word for the entire movie. It solves nor speaks to any social issues political or otherwise. It is perfect in its stupidity. I highly recommend it.

That's why King Of The Hill was so good. Hank was the only non-idiot on the show.

So far, I like it. But Annie Murphy is amazing anyway. :)

You've... never seen her in anything?
I mean, I get it, I guess, not everyone likes the same things. But if you've never seen Schitt's Creek you're really missing out. And even if you haven't seen the show, you had to have seen the thousands of memes that sprang up around it.

I know, I know... you don't even own a TV.

I can almost pull up who she looks like in that photo but then it slips away.

I get into maybe one comedy a decade these days.
No medical dramas anymore.
No police procedurals. And I mean those that the leads are actual police.
Other LE, maybe...

Yeah, in that show show the husband just threatened the wife with domestic violence every week. He was still the idiot.

I watched the first few minutes until it got gritty. Then it looked way too familiar to me and I had to stop.

But the question I and many others have remains: why is she Top Model worthy, but married to such an ugly pig?

Because that's how most sitcoms are cast? I mean, think about it: King of Queens, The Honeymooners, stuff like that - it's always a fat, idiot husband and a hot, sassy wife who lets him get away with stuff because he looks at her a certain way.

This is why I hate sitcoms and why I am loving this show so far.

I will until the first season is complete

That's the entire point of the show.

It's supposed to be a critique of Kevin James type shows where a slubby moron guy somehow has a super hot wife.  The whole reason that the show is called "Kevin Can **** Himself" is because of Kevin James.

It's also why you get the alternating sitcom/drama deal - when the husband is on screen its a lowest common denominator comedy (intentionally), and when he is off the screen we see the damage that that type of person really does to their family in a serious way.

It sounds like a good concept, but the critics seem to think that its not executed very well after the first episode as well.  I might binge it at some point, because the idea seems solid.

For a fast minute I thought maybe a young Laura San Giacomo, but no.
And not Theresa Russell either.

I get close to remembering but then lose it.

I have to remember the role / movie / show and then I'll find her name.

It came on TV while I was at work. We all agreed the framing device was really clever. I wanted to see more, but my shift ended. I'll try to catch it on streaming at some point, it looks like my kind of thing.

I should let my phone load before I post -- didn't realize the original pic was Murphy....because I was confused about neighbor gal...thought it was Mixon for a bit until the voice didn't jibe with what I remembered.

I will go back to finishing my coffee now so my patience is restored with technology.

The first two episodes are already out and it's amazing. I knew Annie Murphy was an excellent actress, but she's absolutely perfect in this. With a Massachusetts accent. Kevin is horrible and I'm actively cheering for her to kill him, which means he's doing a great job. All of the women on the show are too notch.
