How else are they going to get you to buy $7 bottles of water?

You can bring empty containers and fill them for free at those drinking fountain/bottle fillers, ime.

But I gotta admit I do feel safer now that you've placed that potentially explosive bottle you know right next to the line there with all the other potentially explosive bottles and one big potentially explosive trash can.

We were coming back from Turkey with A LOT of perfumed shampoos and shower gels for our own use, but mostly as gifts to family and in-laws.
We had extra weight so we grabbed one of the (wrapped) carry-ons we had initially tried to check in to make weight.

Guess which one we took without thinking.
Guess what happened afterwards.

In some countries, perhaps, but I'm not drinking tap water in the USA. Some of it is clearly contaminated with lead. Dog only knows what other contaminants Americans routinely consume from their tap water. The standards are clearly as low as the public will accept, and even those low standards are apparently routinely ignored. Also, most of it has an assload of chlorine in it, because US water companies can't guarantee that their water treatment and distribution systems are safe and uncontaminated with harmful pathogens.

I guess I'll just pay the $7.

Wow I would not have guessed 15 years. I'd have figured coming up for 20, like maybe this September, October kinda time.

What the fark happened 15 years ago that made this a good idea then?

last flight I was on I brought two airplane bottles of vodka. I was threatened with arrest.

The technology exists. Exempted liquids like medicine and breast milk are screened all the time. The problem is that the machines that do it are slow as all fark, and having to test everyone's liquids would make the wait times even worse than they already are.

I also stopped buying bottled water years ago. I just fill large bottles with tap water and keep them in the refrigerator for whenever I want cold water.

Bottled water is a waste of money and too much use of plastic.

And do you still have to take off your shoes at American airports?

Farking dumb. You don't even have to do that at Israel's international airport.

Terrorist or nervious flier?

What's the difference you can buy vodka and a gallon of hand sanitizer once you get past the check point. They will happily let you take it on the plane if it was purchased in the airport.

Sounds more like a money play to me.

I have a pair of vacuum insulated jugs I use for work. $30 a piece but I've had them for years. Ice cold all day long.

And remember how it was all bullshiat?

The whole ''we must ban liquids on planes'' was based on some kind of fake ass ''9/11 x 10''... some kind of bullshiat al-qaeda plan to hijack and blow 10 planes at the same time... and the whole thing was based on the lie that terrorists could somehow cook bombs from liquids in the plane's bathroom for hours without getting found out, beaten up or killed.

The whole thing was based on a farking lie. Yet this crap continues. Farking pathetic.

Some moron at TSA or in congress or at fox news watched The Rock or Die Hard too many times thinking it was real.

In the entire history of terrorists, not ONCE have they EVER used binary liquid explosives. EVER. Not in afghanistan, not in Iraq, not during ISIS, not against Israel, not in Europe, not in Turkey, NEVER EVER EVER.

I remember when they first made the rule we went of a trip st.  Thomas. If you've never been, let me explain that their cruzan rum is (was?) dirt cheap.  I took the rule seriously and stowed a few bottles in a check-in bag. Nearly everyone at the airport departing had a case or two that they were forced to check.

Not a single ounce of rum made it to baggage claim. *Poof* gone.

Went to Tijuana to have weight loss surgery and brought back several huge bottles of tequila to San Diego. We had to toss our bottles of water for me to drink after surgery. But all we had to do with five half gallons of tequila was put in a bag that zipped closed in case it spilled....

Most of it is actually asking everyone -- regardless of race or religion -- a bunch of questions and seeing if they act nervous or if the answers change.

Many airports have fast bottle fillers with filters.  I tried getting the government agency that I worked at to install one in our building. As we had signs about running the water for a minute before consuming up until 2015.  (Taken down because someone thought they looked bad, not because they fixed the problem)

I guess I'll just pay the $7.

nah, some of it's contaminated groundwater.

There were some lawsuits over how much, too, as some were pumping so much groundwater, they were lowering the water table so far it was causing streams in the area to dry up.

Personally, I think the dumbest thing about the liquids restrictions is the limit on bottle size.  As you can take larger empty bottles through (or buy them once on the other side), you could just pour a bunch of 3oz bottles into a larger bottle.  What they really care about is the ziplock bag, which helps hold in any vapors to make it easier for their machines to detect.

I don't fly much anymore (even before 2020), but I used to keep notes on where I could get Pepsi products at various airports terminals.  (I suggested the company make a website, but they never responded back)

America moved to the "Workaround" model of institutional bigotry after the 1960s Civil Rights movement.  You can't do anything overtly racist.  You have to find a way to do it that looks sensible and logical for some other, admittedly convoluted and ultimately bullshiat, but non-racist reason.

Hah, you aren't serious?

Our toll authority perpetually rolls new bonds over so they can keep charging tolls. They'll issue new bonds for extensions and construction, and those bonds mean we can't get rid of the tolls.

Luckily, no one has to pay after July 1st with our new criminal justice reform bill.

When white people came to America, they thought the people living there were indians.  Even when they found out they weren't in India, they still called them indians.  We still call American Indians.  That has got to be the most "developmentally disabled" thing I have ever heard of.

One time when I was going through the security checkpoint, the TSA pulled my laptop bag off of the conveyer after it had been x-rayed. They said they needed to do a manual inspection, searched my bag and didn't find anything. Later, when I was at the gate, I discovered that there was a full water bottle in the side pocket of my bag. My wife and I had a pretty good laugh about that.
