I enjoyed the hell out of AHS 1984.

This one sounds like each episode is a different story, which sounds promising since a couple of AHS seasons ran out of steam and/or ideas.

This was my experience with nearly every season of AHS. You really have to embrace the ridiculousness of it at the outset if you're going to have a good time, and I'm willing to do that, but about 3/4 of the way through every season it would go off the rails in a way that was no longer entertaining for me, like they had no clue how to pay off on the premises they had set up and would start throwing stuff at the wall. The show has its moments, though.

This is probably what it should have been since the beginning.

It was the only season since the first that I watched all the way to the end. The rest eventually bored me and I stopped mostly because I forgot they existed.

I get this from a lot of tv drama series nowadays.  They start off really strong and then peter out before the "season" end.  A couple of the ones I've been able to stick out recently are the Boys, Mindhunter, and Goliath.  Sad Mindhunter is pretty much dead, though.

Best season?

American Horror Story: Coven or American Horror Story: Asylum?

I liked the first season best because it was new and had the advantage of being something new. I like the apocalypse one too because it did a good enough job of tying up loose ends. The rest were all lesser efforts in my opinion. I like anthologies so I think this new series might be more to my liking.
