Wow. So cool. Very happy we now have a National Holiday to commemorate the end of slavery. Going to be more challenging for Republicans to suppress Critical Race Theory in public schools, huh?

Last year Drew had a banner that said Happy Juneteenth. Guess he's over it.

It automatically came in as a federal holiday on my iCal from Google, so there's that, I guess.

Note they were celebrating Juneteenth in Virginia 120 years ago.

We have Farkers calling Juneteenth "revisionism" because it wasn't akshually date of the end of slavery.

They should make some Friday The Juneteenth movies starring Kevin Hart and The Rock.

December 25th isn't the actual birthday of Jesus, either, but we have no problems with that.

Yes! We can all celebrate the day a Republican informed the African-Americans in Texas that the Democrats in charge there had been lying to them and exploiting their labor.

A rat done bit my sister, Nell. Her face and arms began to swell. But, hey, we now have a national holiday to commemorate the end of slavery.

I can't pay no doctor bill. Ten years from now I'll be paying still. But, hey, we now have a national holiday to commemorate the end of slavery.

The man just upped my rent last night. No hot water, no toilets, no lights. I wonder why he's upping me? I was already paying him three-fifty a week. But, hey, we now have a national holiday to commemorate the end of slavery.

Taxes taking my whole damn check, Junkies making me a nervous wreck, The price of food is going up, but, hey, we now have a national holiday to commemorate the end of slavery.

But don't call them racists and deplorables, it hurts their fee-fees.

I thought they liked calling themselves a deplorable now. Yeah they were pissy and butthurt when Hillary said it, but now they wear it like a badge of honor.

I'm reminded of a line from Sinatra Mantra by Victims Family.

"I'm not a tough guy, just a cowardly facsimile. A walking contradiction..."

I've been wondering all day if there was a traditional way of celebrating Juneteenth. Now I know that next year I should cover my car in flowers.

According to a FARK link from a few days back, indulging in BBQ and red drinks are also acceptable.

Not really, they'll just pass laws saying it can't be celebrated, because "states rights". And the Republican SC will back them up, because the 10th Amendment is in the Constitution, and national holidays aren't.

\America was founded by rich, white, slave owning men who didn't want to pay taxes, and is designed to keep them in power.

Not really. Capitalists will find a way to exploit something as soon as it exists.

The amount of idiots I saw screaming online "OMG! Why are they making a new holiday, damn free lodading liberals! Don't you know they were responsible for slavery?!"
makes me realize that black history month needs to span at minimum half the year...

If I may play the asshole's advocate:

13th Amendment:
"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

President Keith David:
"He didn't free them all."

Prior to the pandemic, each year our place of worship held a very late night worship hour that concluded with a potluck breakfast shortly after midnight. A few people would go out to watch the sunrise.
