It seems to me CONCACAF needs to have a pre-determined set of punishments that begins with what they are doing, playing behind closed doors, but ending with the offending country being suspended from the confederation. Otherwise, CONCACAF is just playing.

Make rainbow merch (sold just before the gates) be the mandatory dress code before the rest of the year's matches.

So first off, good for taking action but doesn't this also punish the other team and their fans?

That's a good question.  I guess now the first time it happens throw a red card and force Mexico to remove a player

That would cause the racist El Tri fans to start shouting their chants even *louder*, only this time it would be death threats directed at the officials.

Interesting that this was in relation to the March games and not how bad it was at Nations Cup. I wonder if it was because NC was in USA so they are sticking with home game incidents. Interesting to see if they escalate if chants continue during qualifying after the 2 closed door matches.

They did say FIFA is investigating the same chants being made during a friendly match held in Texas v Iceland from last month. So while they haven't said anything about investigating the matches in Denver, that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Will they still be on the Mexican Radio?

they need to get a real punishment.  Until Mexico loses a WC beth because of this, it won't stop.

I'm from Mexico and am a US citizen.  I've always cheered for Mexico before this.  After they were called out for the chant are the Brazil WC, the coach and players defended it.  That's pretty much the last time I cheered for them.

I hope they miss out on the WC because of this chant. That will send a message.

One warning and then the ref can stop the match and Mexico forfeits.

There's been instances where such a punishment has been given but a small number of away fans were allowed in.

It's a riddle.

It's gonna be hard for the Mexican team to pick up the slack. I would imagine running around with a cup of piss and a road flare to throw at the other team would make playing a lot harder.

it has several meanings

On the other hand, FIFA seems to be perfectly fine with Qatar, a very anti-LGBT country, hosting the cup... but I guess the billions they'll make makes up for that.
