I wouldn't call it great but it's okay. It definitely better.

I always thought that the producer on "Friday" deserved more credit. Made an almost passable song with an affluent suburban kid who had little life experience or hardship to write about or draw from.

The producer should be charged with a war crime.

I wouldn't call it great.

It's pretty run of the mill 2020 era pop music.

Still better than Friday.

(For the record, I never blamed her for Friday. She was 13.   I blame the adults who wrote and produced the thing)

Friday will one day be recognised as the classic it truly is.

The producers - two adult men - wrote that song. There's no excuse. In the middle ages they would have been burned at the stake.

Girl didn't deserve the hate she got but now that it's all said and done she seems to be doing well and we got some funny gifs

I happened across her YouTube channel after seeing something on Bad Luck Brian. Maybe it is an act and maybe she isn't giving people what they want, but all things considered she seemed to have a much better attitude about all of it than one would imagine. Not that it was easy or anything I'm sure but it could have ended up a whole lot worse. Reminded me of when I stumbled on Wil Wheaton's "So you really still hate me?" page or whatever it was called many moons ago,

Friday isn't a great song, but it's better than anything Bieber or Spin Doctors have ever done.

I wish my teenage music was so crappy that Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, and Taylor Hicks would go on national  television and give a gigantic fark you to everyone who bullied me.

At least in Friday she was a farking child singing a song someone else wrote.

I covered Friday as a gag for some contest on a gaming site probably 10 years ago. It's as awful as you imagine.

It seems like they must have at least tried to work with her to develop the song. I'd find it difficult to believe that they wrote the bit about having a bowl of cereal without her input. I'm not saying it's a good song, I'm just saying that they made an impressive effort towards a Herculean task. Guess I should know better than to challenge a pop culture fact.

I never go the hate for her and that Friday song. She was what, 13? Just a dumb kid making a dumb video and putting it on the internet. I doubt anyone that age could do much better.

She didn't write the song or make the video, she paid for it (her mom did). So any 13 year old could have done better, randomly, by hiring a different songwriting/production company.

I can't dog on her. The girl made a song that went viral and love it or hate it, she left her mark on the world before she was 18.

"almost passable" is very generous.  I went back and listened to "Friday" and it's as bad as I remembered.  That said the new song linked in the article is good.  Not really my style but her voice and the songwriting are both much better.

2021-06-17 6:34:32 PM
On one hand, good for her for not getting messed up by becoming a meme punchline.  On the other hand, just thinking about playing one of her songs has "partying partying yeah" or "fun fun fun fun" go off in my head.

Leave that eurotrash at the door pal. We're talking about talented and world renowned phenom Rebecca Black, and I'll not have you sully it by bringing them up.

Friday aside, she strikes me as fame hungry but without the talent.  I hope I'm wrong about that.  She keeps popping up but never landing anything, including a stab at acting.  The two songs linked in the article... eh I'm not a fan.  They seem rather vacant and without any personality of Black's in them except for a very strange thing - they still sound a bit like Friday somehow.

Good luck to her, though.  I can only criticize a total stranger for so long.

? There's no misunderstanding like Fark misunderstanding

No reason to hate her for a song she didn't write, that was my point. The production company wrote it. If they had written even an average song she would have been spared a lot of grief.

I'm a grumpy old man, and to me, her music doesn't sound any worse than most pop music I hear.

Also as a grumpy old man, this is completely inappropriate, but Miss Black is gorgeous. A total knockout. And she seems to be fun and have a sense of humor. All after surviving the entire Internet hating her when she was a child.

Rebecca Black is on my "I'm ok with this" list.

Billy Liar: It was no "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah"

That lyric is kind of genius by early 60s pop standards.

A lesser songwriter would write "I love you" or "She loves me".  "She loves you" was a novel approach to teenybopper songs of the time.

Not great but I would say better than run of the mill.  Run of the mill currently involves more autotune than T-Pain used in his entire career. Pop today treats autotune like the 80s treated synth.
