I figured Zak Bagans would be involved with the sell of this place.  The place must be super creepy that even Zak sells it.

Not a bad price for a piece of property of that size in that area.

Built in 1922, the two-bedroom, one and a half bathroom home sits on a lot that slopes gently in the back, allowing for views of the San Gabriel Mountains.
Inside the 1,655-square-foot home

I just assumed that the house was much bigger with them owning a grocery store chain.

The home where Charles Manson's followers murdered the LaBiancas is finally in the hands of a new owner ... after months of sitting on the market and a significant slash in price.

Apparently they were actually living beyond their means because of Leno's debts -- gambling, IIRC.

I don't care who died there...well, I mean I do, but it wouldn't stop me from snagging that piece of property.

It's a nice place with a good view. If no one famous had died there it'd still be worth 1.74 mill.

Hell, it might be worth more actually. Might have turned off a lot of buyers and drove the bids down.

It's been 52 years since the LaBianca murders. I would hope that it's been remodeled extensively.

The house that Sharon Tate was murdered in has been torn down and a new house built in its place. They even changed the street address.

The department chairman at one of the grad schools I went to bought a house where several members of a family were murdered. He was giddy about getting it for such a great price. He even said that the carpets had to be replaced due to all the blood stains.

I'm not a superstitious curse believer, but years later some other members of the murdered family were killed in a car crash on the freeway directly behind the house.

I knew they tore it down...didn't know they changed the street address. IIRC, someone built a huge monstrosity of a home in its place.

It's kind of shocking just how huge houses have gotten in the past 40 years. Prior to that, even relatively wealthy members of the upper middle class tended to live in small houses by today's standards.

According to Phil Kaufman, Gram Parsons' road manager (who met Manson in jail), some friends of Phil's lived next door to the LaBiancas, and Phil was staying with them.  Manson thought Phil had ripped him off for record royalties (see bootleg Manson LP cover) and the killers went to the wrong house.

Normally, I would think about the fact that people have been murdered in a home and its connection with an infamous cult leader.  But having recently bought a home whose prior occupants apparently did nothing with the house since the 1980's, I hope for the sake of the new owners that they got a home remodeled in the past couple of decades.  We had to bring in a contractor to do all the outlets and the circuit box.  Wow, that certainly was one painful expense.

Pulling out the shag carpeting was a cinch in comparison.

The Manson story is ancient history now.  Don't believe me?  Ask any random person under 40 years of age if they know who Charles Manson was.

It looks like the seller was trying to get a premium for the place based on its 'history' only to find out that no one cares about its history.    BTW, that house is a 'tear down'.   Way too small for the kind of person who would buy a house in that neighborhood.  It was purchased for the property.

Everything in US Murica has been super-sized.  Compare the current F-150 with a F-150 from  the 70s.  The new truck looks like a Freightliner by comparison.  Hell, the current Honda Civic is twice as large as a Honda Civic from just 20 years ago.   I grew up in North Jersey where there was a massive post-WWII suburban building boom.  Lots of the houses that went up in the late 1940s-1950s still survive intact to this day.  By modern standards they seem comically tiny.   Let's not even start talking about the average size of the modern Murican arse.

Years ago we were looking for a house to buy. Looked at a bunch and found a few we liked. One of them was just what we were looking for. The real estate agent then told us that the previous owner had commited suicide in the garage.

I'm don't believe in ghosts and hauntings and all that crap but it was a weird thought. I remember calling my BIL to get his opinion on some places. WHen I mentioned that we liked that one house except for the suicide thing, he paused,,,a nice long one,,,and said "What's the problem? Is he still hanging there?"

Put in an offer that day.

Ha!
Weird thing is, it was purchased by a family that ran a Christian home-school thing there. They moved out about a year ago. Maybe their Jebus magic wasn't enough to keep the spectre at bay.

Sounds like the Amityville Horror house.

The chief liability with the Amityville Horror house is the number of idiotic looky-loo tourists who come by to  gawk at it.  It's so bad that a previous set of owners had the house's street number changed and altered the street-facing façade, removing the iconic quarter-round windows and the exterior chimney on that side.
