A real look at the so-called "benefits of the electoral college.

If you think it is good for us, think again.

Everyone should wear one of these ribbons for OldButFast:

[image from zarcrom.com too old to be available]

His posts don't have any semblance of logic, it's pointless to debate with him. It's like having a conversation with a mental patient (I've visited a few mental hospitals in my time, it's simultaneously fun and depressing...)
2004-10-04 08:51:55 PM
Take his 1970 statement and read it with his Thursday statement. They are consistent.

Then take his statement that he will "Swiftly" retaliate once the United States is attacked.
Get that...first they kill our family and neighbors and then President Kerry will "retailiate"

Come one boys. YOu see the truth. The man is not ready for prime time. You know its true but you hang on. Not enuf of you to put him over the top though.

Hell, even the People's Republic of Oregon could go for Bush! Labor dense Wisconsin is solidly for Bush. Boys, the game is up! Kerry loses. The ballots are going out in about two weeks here in Oregon, and I'll vote within minutes (guess how?)
The nut will NOT defend the United States but will hesitate.

You weren't on Bill Maher the other night, were you?? With the green tie?? ehh??
2004-10-04 08:56:43 PM
You guys don't seem to get it, OldButFast isn't here to debate, he isn't here to get to the bottom of anything, he's here to smear and cheerlead.

That's what indoctrinated sycophants do.

Stop feeding the troll.

2004-10-04 08:56:46 PM

Nothing real to say, just that.
2004-10-04 08:57:35 PM
Actually the Swift Fellas were contradicted by themselves. It was Elliot that defended Kerry 8 years ago against many of the same charges he has now leveled against him.

If you really think that the Swift Fellas are about what Kerry did DURING Vietname, you're an idiot. It is all about what he did AFTER Vietnam that has them all bent out of shape.

It comes down to one candidate has heard shots fired in anger, one has not.

Honestly I can't wait until all of the Nam vets are dead and gone so we do not have to listen to this whiny B.S. any more.
2004-10-04 08:57:47 PM
My vote is for senile dementia.

New hotness: The swift boat veterans are credible

I'm pretty sure you are going to kill someone next year. The cops are on their way to arrest you now.

2004-10-04 09:04:53 PM
So I'm reading posts backwards... sue me. Ran into this little gem:

The Swifties have been discredited? By whom, Jason Blair of the NY Times? Dan Rather of CBS?

How about by themselves? Remember one of the prominent speakers in that ad is George Elliot, who originally recommended Kerry for his Silver Star and supported him up until last year. In fact, this guy is quoted in the Boston Globe as saying the medal was well deserved.

So yeah, they discredited themselves I think.
2004-10-04 09:05:43 PM
hahahaha Kerry says "if you challenge my heroism, I say BRING IT ON." Now Kerry says "STOP BRINGING IT ON!"
Says Null Pointer:

"It comes down to one candidate has heard shots fired in anger, one has not.

Honestly I can't wait until all of the Nam vets are dead and gone so we do not have to listen to this whiny B.S. any more."

President Roosevelt was the greatest war president. Ever. Never was in the military.

President Grant. Greatest war hero. shiatties president.

""He was twice decorated for bravery. In December 1914 he was awarded the Iron Cross, Second Class, and in August 1918 he received the Iron Cross First Class, which was rarely given to a common soldier in the old Imperial Army. One comrade in his unit testified that he won the coveted decoration for having captured fifteen Englishmen single-handed; another said it was Frenchmen.

Whatever the reason, there is no doubt that Corporal Hitler earned the Iron Cross, First Class. He wore it proudly all his life."

Dude, you rock!

But the thing is, you'll never convince someone like this that anything other than their own view is right. It's just a waste of time.

He's an American version of a radical in the middle east. No, I'm not saying he's a terrorist, I'm just saying his close mindedness is so extreme that he is a characature of himself.

I think whats important is to not waste (too much ;) ) time with someone like him. It's literally like talking to a wall, but yes I agree, he is what's wrong with this country, and probably a good portion of the whole world.
2004-10-04 09:08:49 PM
OldButFast The Swifties have been discredited.
Youre just proof positive that people with your point of view only have their eyes opened to opinion that doesnt conflict with what you have been told to believe. You must believe the Swifties despite the overwhelming facts that have discredited their arguments in order to support your warped perspective. You have no ability to judge facts because you refuse to accept them when they dont come from sources you have been told to follow. Isnt FOX news on somewhere? Why dont you leave the voting to those of us who possess the ability to arrive at an original conclusion based on FACT.

I realize you wont do this in because of your demonstrated small capacity for free thought.

2004-10-04 09:11:27 PM
I don't think that I necessarily rock, but I thank you for the accolades.

And true, I may just be wating my time.. and yes, I do realize it's probably like yelling at a wall. (I was, in fact, planning on stating this.. but you beat me to it!)

However, I am incredibly, and unbelievable stubborn. That said, I *should* probably leave the debate for a bit, if only to do my calc III homework and read some Nietzche (who I get the feeling I shall dislike) for my philosphy class.
2004-10-04 09:11:29 PM
I know you would never lie to me. Where have the swifties been discredited, please?

Never happened. Kerry is a liar. Liar then. Liar now and you'd vote for a liar and a treasonous bastard merely because he isn't George Bush. Pathetic.

Why not just vote for Mickey Mouse?
2004-10-04 09:12:44 PM

He's an American version of a radical in the middle east.

I saw an interesting interview the other day, with some guy who had been in prison with Al-Zarqawi (I think, some terrorist leader anyway). He felt that Bush and Zarqawi both had very similar personalities, such as a very divided line where you were either on his side or an enemy.

Scary thought?

I was also just flipping through channels and ran into some religious program. It caught my attention because it was showing some greek architecture. This guy thought that America was in it's end times because in certain ways (ie. architecture) we resembled ancient Rome.

Then they did a commercial to buy his video, which has more secrets on it too sensitive for TV! (Just like Girls Gone Wild I guess...)

Anyway, they showed some protestors holding a pro gay-marriage sign, and the voice over said something about our enemy trying to piss God off so he would abandon our country. So apparently if you support gay marriage, by which I mean love, you are an evil terrorist. I love brainwashing!
2004-10-04 09:12:47 PM

hahahahahaha Kerry won't even CARRY Michigan!

Knight Ridder News
"Patricia Hanratty is the kind of voter who should already be in John Kerry's column.

She doesn't like President Bush, is opposed the war in Iraq and considers herself worse off financially than she was four years ago. Yet Kerry remains a distant and mysterious figure to her - and she can't bring herself to support him, at least not yet.

Asked what word popped into her mind when she thought about Kerry, Hanratty shrugged apologetically and said, "I don't know. I just don't know. I think that's the problem."

While the Massachusetts senator may have gotten back in the race with a solid performance in the first presidential debate last week, he still faces challenges in winning over undecided voters as he approaches his second debate with Bush on Friday night. Even in Michigan, a Democratic-leaning battleground state, undecided voters who've turned away from Bush aren't yet sold on Kerry.

"There are warning signs for Kerry," said pollster John Zogby, who conducted a focus group of 10 undecided Detroit-area voters Sunday evening for Knight Ridder. "The trend is good for him. But he still hasn't closed the deal. He hasn't persuaded them."

The group comprised two people who voted for Bush in 2000, six who voted for Al Gore and two who will cast their first votes this year.

Voters in the group used words such as strong, stubborn and powerful to describe Bush. Several mentioned his religious faith and his devotion to family as things they admired. Most mentioned Iraq as the worst thing about him.

For Kerry, they used words such as snobbish, straight-laced, dull and dry. Two mentioned his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, when they were asked the best thing about him. None called him a flip-flopper, though one did liken him to the cartoonish Oompa Loompa characters of the children's movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

God there's nothing worse than a willing, self-styled propagandist.

I just don't understand how people of any political persuasion can sink so low.

The very thought of becoming some kind of willing political operative for the Democrats or Republicans makes me ill, yet there are actually people who are proud of it. I just can't understand how someone can subjugate their own self worth like that. It's sad.

2004-10-04 09:26:17 PM
I'm late, but...whoever wrote this headline is a farking genius.
2004-10-04 09:29:22 PM

I guess I think people can be divided into lots of groups, or only two.

Those that see the world in lots of groups find lots of differences to use as excuses to lash out against what they don't want to understand.

Those that see 2 groups see only people that are reasonable and people that aren't.

It's always the unreasonable people that cause problems. If you're a reasonable person, you listen attentively to what someone else has to say whether or not you agree with it. You try to empathize with others, not condasend to them. You have respect for them as another person.

I don't find it hard to believe that Zarqawi and Bush have similar personalities. It's clear.

Both are fundamentalists.
Both are driven by a vision of what they think the world should be.
Both believe in their core that their vision is the Lords vision.

I lived in Israel, right after the gulf war. I can tell you that most religious fundamentalists are complete assholes. Doesn't matter if they're Christian, Muslim, or Jewish. They think they're closer to God than the rest of us. They think that they have a 'special duty' and that exempts them from certain things.

Personally, I like to be around anyone I consider reasonable, and sadly that usually doesn't include fundamentalists. Usually.

Differing beliefs in God has caused more bloodshed than any other cause in human history. It's sad but ironic. A fundamentalist driving any country is a tinderbox. Bush is proof enough of that.

That clinches it. Bet on a civil war.
2004-10-04 09:33:45 PM
And that's gotta be the dumbest article he posted yet.

I will tell you why I can't think of a single word to describe Kerry:

Because I'm not stupid enough to think describing people in a single word is a meaningful exercise.
2004-10-04 09:38:58 PM
A single word to describe Kerry???

2004-10-04 09:39:11 PM
OldButFast, SBVT should be retroactively dishonorably discharged. A large number of douchebags who are in no position to comment on Kerry following a small group of douchebags who are in a position to comment but have no evidence to backup their lies. Their actions are a bigger slap in the face to those who served than Kerry's protest of the war HE EARNED THE RIGHT TO PROTEST ever could be.

I'm ashamed they ever represented our country. They are spineless political shills and I'm shocked that any of them ever had the guts to join.

You are included in this. Do you realize that in a courtroom these guys would be laughed out by the judge? If Kerry wasn't so involved in a Presidential race, and/or wanted to bring himself down to their piggish level, he could sue for slander.
2004-10-04 09:43:28 PM
Hrm... if Kerry loses the election could the entire country file a class action lawsuit against the Swift Boat Vets. For Truth? I mean, forcing Bush on us like that has to be illegal somehow... ;)

I should've thought of that.

But seriously, folks. If Bush and Kerry were colors, which ones would they be?

What if they were Beatles? Breeds of dog?
Don't think about it long. Gimme your gut feeling.
Comeon folks, let's feel our way outta this mess.

One more month, and then we'll either have the same set of people whining for the next four years, or an entirely new set of people whining for the next four years.

Kinda sucks when you think about it.

No matter who you vote for, can you just vote and then shut up about it?

No, we've gotta vote AND whine.

But I think I can help you handle the whining. It's simple. When you read print, just imagine all kinds of fun voices.

One guy has an English accent, another guy talks real deep and slow like a giant or an ogre. One's like a munchkin from the Wizard of Oz.

None of them are whining. They're bold and forceful.
