I never even had to speak to the basenjis.  If I wanted the pack to come running at full speed, all I had to do was open a bag of chips.  They're basenjis, so they only listen to you if you have food in your hand at the time (and then they'll decide if what you're telling them is worth doing or not).

It's not just the word. It's the tone of his voice.

I think my dog has figured out the specific sound of air displacement as I reach into the cheese shelf of the fridge. She goes on alert when the fridge opens, but only runs to it when I'm going for cheese. Don't even need to make contact with the packaging and she's somehow sitting next to me, pretending to be a good girl.

Yeah, all those words he uses will light my dog up and several more.  And he knows when I'm spelling several of them as well.  My wife and I are down to hand gestures to discuss dinner or trip plans so we don't get assaulted for a cut of the action before we're prepared.

My wife now refers to our GSD as the "Round Dog" as a result.

Good grief! That puppy acted like it was starving! Is that typical behavior for a beagle puppy?

Yes. Beagles and labs are bottomless pits of gluttony.

It's typical for a puppy, regardless of breed.

Now and again I drop into Spanish to try to get around little furry ears.  Problems are my Spanish is ancient and way past rusty, y los pinche perros aprenden las palabras.  Grumble.

/on the plus side, one's also learned cayate
//I mean she doesn't actually STFU, but you can tell she knows I want her to
///she just ain't gonna do it

That was good, but it could have been about a minute shorter. After awhile, I kinda got the point.

I love how when he says 'chicken', that one eye pops open. It was like Smaug from The Hobbit.

And yeah, my dog absolutely apeshiat, bouncing around in circles and jumping off the ground, if you say 'Wanna go for a walk?' or 'Wanna go for a ride?". I love it, it makes taking her even more fun because she's so excited to go.

Cuter? No...but as cute?

Newfoundlands? Mutts? Basset Hounds? There is not a puppy I would not trample over other humans to go pet..

I used to have a beagle, so I'm not impartial.  All puppies are totally adorable.
