I'm pissed that in his last two plays, he didn't cast any Irish Sicilians.

I saw Hamilton.  I saw people of all flavors. But you know what I didn't see?  I didn't see any old ladies.  I feel unseen. Or something. I dunno.  I want an apology.

Twitter? The case is getting stronger for that every day.

Cue everyone saying he's been cancelled, if even the reality is that Miranda will continue to get work and pay more attention when it comes to casting. That's a good thing.

2021-06-15 6:33:34 PM
Next up, the Twitiots are going to find out that Jamie Foxx wasn't really blind and demand that he give back his Oscar.

I want him gone, now. Erased from history. His type of hate crimes must not go unpunished.

After watching Frasier, I was shocked to find out that it too did not have a strong showing of Afro latinx actors.

Yes, artistic endeavors dictated by a repressive Star Chamber are always a good thing.

Look how great the art that come out of Nazi Germany was.

Don't forget that when Marlee Matlin (a hearing impaired actor who won the Academy Award for Best Actress in Children of a Lesser God) used American sign language as well as her own voice during an appearance on TV, she caught grief by some in the hearing impaired community for not strictly signing.  That's not a stream I'd care to wade across, but it seems people can find all sorts of things to get grumpy over.

I'm still upset that "12 Angry Men" didn't include any women, let alone Latinx actors.  And couldn't they have included at least one happy man?  I'd settle for a man who is a little disgruntled...

From this moment on, all creatives should be made to explain their ideas before a committee in order to ensure that their proposed art is acceptable.

He doesn't have to apologize for anything. The final scene had a whole bunch of dark skinned Latino actors. Even Usnavi, the main character had a darker completion than Miranda.

Sure. "Y'all should have a least some actors who like the people who live in the place you are depicting" is just like the Star Chamber. That's silly and you know it is.

Anyway, it's not like Hollywood doesn't have a long history of telling creative types things like "the star of Charlie Chan movies can't be played by a Chinese-American" or "you can't two Jews in the same scene," or even a production code that banned the portrayal of mixed-race couples.

of course not, they complain about everything they perceive as "woke" culture.  the idea that republicans are interested in non whites outside of trying to kill or prosecute them is hilarious.

Washington Heights is not 'heavily afro latino' it is heavily Dominican. I mean, strictly speaking most Dominicans do have a Afro Caribbean heritage. But don't tell them that. They'll identify as anything but Afro Descendants whenever they can. They hate being called black probably even more than they hate being called Latinx.

At any rate, that area is being gentrified. So if they went with some white people in the casting, it's gonna be accurate in a few years.

I bet you a shiny new dime white NPR listening wokelords are behind the outrage (the use of "latinx" is a huge clue).

FFS, I'm surprised they haven't gone retro and started telling Latinos they can't like "Selena" anymore because Jennifer Lopez is Puerto Rican and not Mexican.

Esai Morales has made a career out of being a Puerto Rican who can play Mexican. He was Ritchie Valens brother in La Bamba, with Ritchie being played by a Filipino. The director got some shiat from some Chicano groups about Lou Diamond Phillips. But the director had been an activist with Cesar Chavez and United Farm Workers. He was eminently qualified to decide that LDP can be Mexican if he wants to.

Wrong. Studios are in the business of making money, not art, and they can and do interfere in artistic decisions all the time. Except maybe for a handful of directors who have final cut privilege, all movies have to not only pass the committee of executives, but also test screening audiences and in some cases even outside consultants, etc. Anyway, in this case the director agrees with the criticism, so I don't see the problem.

How do you propose we stop it? "Woke" culture has been with us since the advent of mass media. it's just used to be people like you complaining about interracial marriage in TV shows and movies. Not saying you yourself are against that, just your 1968 equivalent

There is a large difference between being a decent person and getting offended at the most insignificant things.

I had a Caribbean Literature professor from Haiti, like born and raised, go on a crazy rant about this. One of the most interesting moments of my college career. I already knew the history because I've taken like a gazillion classes on Latin America and the Caribbean, but hearing it straight from an eccentric Haitian was something else. Really cool guy.

I think American-born Dominicans are losing that stuff. It's different when you don't live in DR itself with Haiti right next door. Exhibit one:

Amara La Negra on Race and Her Name
Youtube INBzEeDXa6Q

Identity politics in the US is so incredibly farked... if this chick has really been accused of blackface and she's not just stirring shiat, people are beyond help. I mean... look at the farking lady. That said, this show "the Real" (my wife watches it) doesn't farking help sometimes. The other morning I overheard one of them complaining about how Jennifer Lopez played an Italian in a movie once or something and why that was so horrible. Ugh.

If you're going to accurately represent what Dominicans, Cubans and Puerto Ricans actually look like you can't just grab "hispanic" actors, most of those tend to be Mexican and they have a very different genetic makeup... Mexico's a much larger country and has much more representation in the grand ole EEUU. On many job applications I can't just check off hispanic and white anymore. It says shiat like Two or more races (non-hispanic) and I'm like... what the fark is this? Oh well, guess my translucent ass has to check off just plain old hispanic, that's the only one that doesn't say (non-hispanic) afterwards, no skin off my ass, it's not like I'm proud to be white or anything.

When people say Al Pacino was unrealistic as a Cuban I'm like... "have you farking seen Pitbull? Have you been to Hialeah?" I don't see why someone needs to be "Afro-Latino" to be in a movie like this, I don't understand it, there's a ton of black actors and dancers in the US to choose from. Teach them a few new dance moves and some Spanish and vamos.

/I cut this long-winded rant in half, believe it or not

I just finished the first book and am almost done with the first season. He definitely sounds like a New Yorker trying to sound Texan. He's not even trying that hard. The accent drops in and out. He'd have been better off without it. Really, though, it should have been Sam Elliott again.

Again, follow me here....people have always had sticks up their asses regarding mass entertainment. It isn't going away, ever. Especially with social media. You can sit and biatch about it or, do like most normal people do, and ignore it
