Anywhere but Texas, even he knows what a shiathole it is.  But he'll probably stay in DC anyway.

Wonder how they'll blame this on wind turbines this time.  "They must be overheating!"

Has California had any blackouts or threatened blackouts this year?

2021-06-14 3:17:37 PM
LOL. Got money to build Trump's wall, but not to fix their grid?

2021-06-14 3:18:39 PM
I was waiting on this.  It is hot soup down here.  This is like late summer weather with ridiculous humidity and heat.  I worked outside on Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday, I started at a little before 9am and was completely soaked within 30 minutes.  It's just nasty.

But yeah, this is wonderful.  If these yahoos have to kill power and do it like they did during the freeze, there's going to be a lot of nasty garbage as people lose entire freezers full of stuff.

Can't handle the cold, can't handle the heat. Is Texas' grid made of cell phone batteries?

Probably.  And people will blame every ideology except an unwillingness to spend money to shore up fragile infrastructure.

I anticipate a lot of talk about all the people fleeing Cali for Texas to abruptly cease sometime in 2022.

It kind of figures this happens after John Oliver did an extended segment last night on Texas prisons trying to cook their inmates to death.

According to my local Sherwin Williams store, in the Texas freeze last winter, their paint plants got so cold the water pipes froze, destroying their entire stock of solvents and dyes. It's going to be months before they get manufacturing back on line. Retail paint costs are also going up 7% as they're reallocating their stock in their non-Texas warehouses.

So....that's also the cost of Republican crony-capitalism.

I thought the wind turbines are solar powered, to help the environment.

Fixed against cold, yes.  But you see, it doesn't get hot in Texas, so no one ever thought that maybe people would be running air conditioning during a heatwave, so they're boned.

No blackouts here in San Diego since last year.

/and that one was a planned overnight outage due to infrastructure upgrades.

Whenever the health inspector would come in, I'd ask him or her, "What's the grossest thing you've encountered as a health inspector?"  One of them told me a story about a post-hurricane inspection.  The area had lost power and a big distributor like Sysco had moved literally tons of food into refrigerated trucks.  Then the trucks lost power.  He got there three days after the trucks died and was there for the unsealing of the seafood truck.  Everything was riddled with maggots.  The had to put on hazmat suits to clean it up.

He had another story about Cracklin' Oat Bread, but I'll save that one for another time.

Yeesh, and they want to secede. At least be able to provide basic services first.

Bravo.

I'm pretty sure the average farker is much smarter than the bottom 9/10 of Texas politicians... or Texans.

Wonder how long it would take Texas to turn into one of the "shiatholes" Trump complained about if they seceded.

And will the Texans who support Cruz learn their lesson?  No?  Well, then this is non-news.

Welcome to your new normal Texas. Getting everything you voted for.

You wanted to be a "Lone Star State" well, get used to going it alone.

they will blame it on the big cities, and thus it will be the democrat's creating the problem instead of a family of 3 living in a 5200 sf house on a ranchet 50 minutes away from the nearest courthouse.
